 | 3rd party routers added to Actiontec I have VZ 35/35, phone and TV with ATec Rev C (Dec 07) router, but would like gigabit LAN and wireless N performance. I understand that VZ wont just upgrade me to a router with these capabilities, even if I pay for it. That leaves recommendations from folks on this forum to add a 3rd party router. 10 different strategies were listed, in order of complexity. My question is, would the simplest strategies (1-3) with the new router, e.g. Linksys 4200v2 as secondary hooked in simply as a switch, achieve this end? Or would the AT still be a bottle neck and the enhanced performance of the 4200 be wasted? I read the pros and cons of the different options, but still have this question. Thanks for any insight into this question. |

 | Yes, I've spent the greater part of the last two days reading them, but unless I'm missing something very obvious, I haven't been able to find an answer to my question. |

 | reply to faze so hooking my computers into, and using wireless with the secondary (Linksys) router will allow them to work at gigabit and wireless N speeds? |
|
 | reply to Chester88 Depends on what your "requirements" and associated "bottlenecks" are. I'd look at it this way:
1) If you want VZ CID and Remote DVR to work, and 7500 NAT entries are sufficient for you, keep the Rev C primary and bridge the Cisco onto it for wireless and gigabit.
2) If you want VZ CID and Remote DVR to work, but need up to 30,000 NAT entries, replace the Rev C with a Rev F from ebay.
3) If you don't care about CID or Remote DVR, and you have ethernet from the ONT to the router, make the Cisco primary and bridge the Rev C onto it for the STB's.
There are other variations based on your careabouts. |

 | Thanks very much! You have answered my question and I know what I need to do now. |

The Actiontec is not a bottleneck as far as your upload or download speeds are concerned, nor will the 4200 help with your upload/download speeds. -- There are 10 kinds of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't.

kcs @verizon.net | reply to faze I link my Linksys Wireless Router Lan to Lan w. my VZ-issued Actiontek, but I can't get into my "Router Settings" on Linksys to disable DHCP How do I do this? |
