Re: 2012 - How Many DIDs do you have now? said by DogFace05:BTW, where the hell is Mazilo? Hard at work counting his tens of thousands of DIDs? Pardon me. I got carried away with some of my young and good curvy / sexy looking Latina female friendS over the weekend and now am recuperating (if you know what I meant) as well as catching up with some posts in the forum. As with DID#, (as always) you guessed it right.
BTW, one interesting I noticed from all of the above posts is every poster would rather pay for more to have many different commercial DID#s than to get the freebie DID#s, with the exception post from N7AS (my kind of pal in this matter). AFAIC, calls quality from free DID#s is good enough for me and I just can't complain about it.Also, the best part of having a free GV DID# is you are given an option to select, not only the area code, but also the number you (dis)like. -- don't and stop are the ONLY two 4-letter words considered offensive to men, but not when used together. |

I discontinued a DID from Onesuite... My Zipring DID went Kaupt... Gizmo5 is long gone...
Total: 19 free DIDs, one free fax DID, one paid DID (the number I had with Ill. Bell/Ameritech/SBC/AT&T for 32 years that I only recently ported to Callcentric).
I seem to be more in the Mazilo/N7AS in terms of seeing the value of free DIDs. But I never went wild accumulating DIDs from IPKall and IPcomms because at the time they were kind of flakey and later on I really had plenty from other sources... |

gweidenh join:2002-05-18 Houston, TX kudos:1 | Wow.... 14 Sipgate DID's from a handful of users... what in the world are some of you doing with 4 free DID's from one provider? You cant even forward a Sipgate DID to a SIP URI... likely because people were abusing the service and just using the free DID...
No wonder they aren't opening themselves up for new registrations...
Thank you. |

In my case each has a use and is being used (albeit modestly). Each has a different area code. 2 provide a local presence for business purposes. 2 afford local free calling capability for older relatives who are still on a limited POTS plan with free local calling, but with expensive everything else.
Yup; I was personally responsible for the demise of Sipgate due to my unmitigated selfishness several years ago, even though they continued to offer (and even expanded) on their free DID offering for years after I signed up for my last one.
(I don't use ANY of them with GoogleVoice. I think that's when the usage of Sipgate free DIDs really took off...) |

said by gweidenh:...You can't even forward a Sipgate DID to a SIP URI... Tell that to Line 8 on my LinkSys SPA8000 which clearly shows current registration of one of my two SipGate DIDs. Calls are ariving without any problems thru the ATA to my multi-line phone.

I may have misinterpreted gweidenh's post ... in that one cannot forward an incomig call to my SG DID to another provider's SIP-URI. But SG is working on my adapter. |

I thought all gweidenh was saying is that, from Sipgate, you can't forward to a SIP URI (such as "yomama@pbxes.org"). I think that is correct.
I didn't think gweidenh was implying that you couldn't register to Sipgate from your ATA or PBX, which -- unless I'm mistaken -- is what I think you are describing. Of course you can do that. I register to my Sipgate DIDs/accounts via my PIAF PBX. |
