Did you ever have Optik TV before? If not, the POTS splitter is likely there for a reason.

Odds are that POTS splitter was installed due to a problem with wiring. if you run a new jack, hook the pair to the ADSL port on that POTS splitter.

Yes the modem port. You can try bypassing the POTS splitter but then you'll have to install microfilters on every phone in your house.

You can find some of the wiring information below.

if you want to get rid of the POTS splitter, then I'd recommend disconnect all other inside wires you are not using. If not....you have the potential for some major grief. You will want to tie the inside wire down on the red/green terminals (older style) of the jack, or the white/blue (new style). If the jack has red/green, black/yellow, and white/blue terminals...use the red/green. As for the inside wire colours, use the pair that corresponds to the colours, at the POTS splitter.
If it was me.....I'd move the wires to the POTS splitter, one pair at a time to the ATU (modem) terminal, until your modem syncs up...now you now which inside wire, feeds your modem. Leave that pair tied down there, and tie the rest down, on the phone termination.
