T Mobile has upgraded some towers in my area to support their 42mbps data speed I know this because I saw some news stories about the announcement doing a Google search here's another news story about it: »thecellphonejunkie.com/2012/01/1···markets/ These same towers I know AT&T runs off of. My question is why don't the other carriers use that backhaul already in place to support LTE? Like Verizon could use it or AT&T, instead it seems like T Mobile is the only one in my area to offer those kind of speeds.
Also looking at T Mobiles coverage map and TMobileTowers.com oddly it seems like they have mostly just upgraded their own towers with the 42mbps backhaul? I assume T Mobile owns these towers being TMobileTowers.com seems like an official page.. |

| The towers at&t uses are not the same as t-mobile. They are commonly on the same pole, or building so to say but each provider has their own panels and backhaul. T-Mobile commonly prefers companies like comcast, time warner, brighthouse, etc to provide the bandwidth to the towers vs. at&t and verizon who use their own. (The cable companies are commonly easier to deal with and cheaper than the landline companies. Big shock i know)
The tmobiletowers.com is the towers t-mobile owns, and is currently in the process of selling off to someone else. (Not own the towers, lease them. Your coverage won't change) but they use a LOT of other companies for towers. That site lists nothing near me at all but we have 42Mb coverage. -- The day the child realizes that all adults are imperfect, he becomes an adolescent; the day he forgives them, he becomes an adult. | reply to ztmike I stand corrected, that site lists only 2 towers in my market. (Wilmington, NC) and those same two t-mobile owned towers are the two towers that are only 2g. lmao. The rest near me are HSPA+ so towers NOT owned by t-mobile have no bearing on HSPA+ vs. company owned towers. »www.t-mobiletowers.com/TowerDeta···=0&mode= is a t-mobile tower that doesn't even provide service for t-mobile. Yet anyway. lol -- The day the child realizes that all adults are imperfect, he becomes an adolescent; the day he forgives them, he becomes an adult. The day he forgives himself, he becomes wise. T Mobile is probably using Comcast here then for their backhaul..we do have Docsis 3 here from them. |
