Are these signal levels right?

The last few weeks my internet speeds have really tailed off. I have the InternetPlus level, and at max I only seem to get 12-15mbs down. Upload speed is usually anywhere between 3 and 4 mbs.

I checked my signal levels they are:

Receive Power Level
-4.4 dBmV

Transmit Power Level
43.2 dBmV

Are these good or bad? If bad, what should be my next steps?

Thanks,
JD

What is the downstream SNR?

Assuming your downstream SNR (MER) is a 33 or higher, those levels are good. The only signal you cannot see that can be an issue for connectivity is the upstream SNR.

Only Charter can see that number as it is generated at the CMTS. If you are having problems, you may wanna hop over to Charter Direct and speak with those guys.

I do not see a field for Upstream or Downstream SNR. When I go to 192.168.100.1, I see a Scientific Atlanta/Webstar page, Name, Serial Number, Mac Address, hardware and software versions, and the receive and transmit power levels.

Thanks for looking...

What's your download speed supposed to be with that package, and how are you testing it? Also, can you show a traceroute (block out your public IP from charter) to the speedtest site(s) you're using?

I'm betting you have a Webstar DPC2100 or 2100r2. This is a Docsis 2 compliant modem and you should a Docsis 3 compliant modem with the Plus tier. Plus is now 30 Mbps? Could be the reason you aren't seeing full download speeds.

If you want to view the downstream SNR with your current modem, go to »192.168.100.1/_aslvl.asp. Select "Level 2" from the dropdown and enter "W2402" as the password. I remember seeing this from some random website/forum years ago.

Yep, the modem name is WebSTAR DPC2100R2.

The login hint worked, the downstream SNR is 35.9 dB.

Sounds like I need to upgrade, swap out my modem? If so, can I just take the old one in to my local office and swap?

Yes. Should be no problem. Just tell them you upgraded to Plus and need a Docsis 3 modem.

Just wanted to close this one out, I swapped out my modem and Charter gave me a Motorola Surfboard 6121, and my speeds are up to the advertised values.
