| [My Review] OCZ vertex 2 40 GB SSD NAND Looks like OCZ uses hunix for my SSD. My question is are they any good. I bought a cheap SSD on e-bay to dissect The warranty was gone any way because it was bought on e-bay. $20 to use as a external SSD and learn who made the NAND for these 40Gb drives since OCZ does not like to discuss who makes the NAND for there drives. I know the larger drives use intel NAND but by the looks of this one is made by hunix. |

| I new what I was getting when I bought it. The drive works and it does what I neeed it to do. I was pretty shocked when I saw hunix in stead of intel nand. I am going the corsair route for my next SSD needs They have decent ssd's with a low RMA rate. |

Also I don't think you can compare Vertex 2 to what OCZ may be using in its latest drives. They also make their own controllers on the latest drives, now that they own Indilinx. |
|
 | Is it the NAND that dies on SSD's or is it the controllers ? |

Wily_OnePremium join:2002-11-24 San Jose, CA | If you're worried about maximum speed, the controller seems to matter very much.
If you're worried about longevity, you want SLC chips. You will also pay more for less capacity. (But if you have info that one manufacturer of MLC chips is better than another, please share it.) That being said, even here the controller does play a role with different algorithms such as wear leveling to increase the longevity of the individual NAND chips. |

| reply to jchambers28 This may be way off since it probably depends a lot on what product we're talking about but I've always thought of OCZ as a glorified label, rather than an actual manufacturer. I know this is true for their PSUs (FSP and others make those for OCZ). I'm not sure what IP they actually own vs have to license.
In terms of who makes NAND, Hynix is pretty well known and has been making memory (not just NAND) for a very long time.
By the way, did anyone catch this? »www.globenewswire.com/newsroom/n···d=239590 -- My Site |

| reply to jchambers28 Clearly you did.
Does anyone have info on actual RMA rates vs. perception?
I have an OCZ Vertex 2 in my desktop and an unknown model (but SATA 3) of ADATA SSD in my laptop, 0 problems thus far... -- If we lose this freedom of ours, history will record with the greatest astonishment, those who had the most to lose, did the least to prevent its happening. |
