Re: Do you think I am being unreasonable in this situation? said by JoelC707:Well it's a start. I'd really be interested in hearing what happened. I understand your frustration with having to wait. If you want a new computer you need to let them know. Just be prepared for them to say no. If the computer survived the damage unscathed, they test it OK, and they will offer the same guarantee as if it were new, I'd take it personally. Yeah...., I had what I wanted to say all thought out and I chickened out with the customer service guy, but I will outline that I want a personal guarantee that if anything happens (remember my luck) after i get it, if it starts acting funny or something, that they replace it, or I'll let the credit card company deal with it.
Thanks everyone for the advice again, it is appreciated. |

I explained to the guy that FedEx managed to damage a package they sent to me and it had to be shipped back. He looked up the information and told me they were inspecting it for damage to see if it was only damage to the package or if they needed to do a rebuild of a new system. I asked how long would it take and if someone would get in touch with me.
And his response was when they finish. And I just really didn't feel the customer service component on his part. As soon as he said that I would have cancelled the order right then and there. You've been extremely patient with this entire ordeal and the last thing you need is a freakin attitude.
Good luck! |

Most FedEx deliveries to businesses come once a day and almost always at the same time. Especially to a place that has a regular FedEx visit. |

And that at a business that does a lot of shipping, end of day is most convenient for the company. Allows them to offer same day shipping for early orders. |

There are different delivery times based on what the customer pays for (ground is usually close of business). I had regular UPS pickup and delivery and he came around at least twice a day. Once around noon for delivery of packages and again around 3-5 for pickup of any outgoing packages. |

| reply to atuarre I live in Lake Charles LA. We had a huge rainstorm the day your package was damaged here. It probably got flooded...everything else did.
said by atuarre:No, this is not one of the big 3. This is a privately owned computer builder that, from what I have read, has a lot of good praise and reviews from its customers. But because I have never dealt with them before, and because of the way my luck works out (yes, FedEx would find a way to fuck this up just because of my luck), the thought would just creep into my mind.
You could probably get a lot better customer service from this company than you could the big 3.
Anyway, I just was trying to figure out a way to explain to them that even if the computer does not look damaged (and maybe its not), I don't want a computer that has been dropped or jarred around and would rather they build a new one, and let FedEx eat the expense for the one that was dropped. Nobody knows what the condition of the original one is, because FedEx would not bring it here. After it was damaged, they immediately made preparations to ship it back to the shipper.
The only reason I knew was because of the shipping exception which had these messages: (see attached image)
And yes, I know packages get dropped and banged all the time, but in my 32 years on this planet, I have never had one that was damaged. |

JoelC707Premium join:2002-07-09 Stone Mountain, GA kudos:4 | Agreed. If it was a flood, they will likely try to call it an "Act of God" and weasel their way out of the insurance. Technically it isn't FedEx's fault because they didn't ask for it to flood but it was in their care when it happened and you would likewise expect anyone else you trusted with your package to keep it safe. Might not be their fault either but they should still try to make things right. I'm not liking this though: »law.justia.com/cases/federal/dis···24433/38. I found that while searching for info on FedEx water damage. Granted he had an expensive industrial machine and it may not even be a flood (leaky trailer roof or something) but the fact he had to sue them to get them to pay up has me worried.
If it indeed was flooded, chances are you don't want the computer but it depends on how well it was packed (double box and the inside box didn't get wet? It's likely fine). Hopefully the company he bought he computer from is stepping up to the plate. |

atuarreHere come the drumsPremium join:2004-02-14 College Station, TX | reply to Brigrat Yes. They received the new computer back, and checked it physically for damage to the case or parts, and then did their standard burn-in tests. They said the only thing that was damaged was the packaging, after I wrote a long e-mail explaining my concerns, etc.
Unfortunately, I was hoping they would ship it to me faster than ground, but they shipped it out, via ground, and it will arrive here Tuesday..., after being shipped on Wednesday (FedEx is so slow.) In any event I will thoroughly inspect it.
Once again, thanks again for anyone who participated in the thread and gave me advice, it is appreciated. |
