| [Rant] Apple Ipods/Itunes After messing with trying to get songs onto an Ipod at the last minute for a party for someone else, I realized how crappy Ipods and Itunes are.
A friend had music on itunes, but her computer had some virus crapware that was blocking loading USB devices. Thats what you get with people who do weird shit to their computers. So I load Itunes on another computer and connect and it says you have reached your 5 computer limit and refused to connect the ipod. I tried to manually put the song files on the ipod through my computer and the ipod would not read them.
I then tried a 3rd party program i found and it would not connect stating it could not talk with that version of the firmware. WTF??? wasted an hour trying to mess with this stupid ipod. I have several real mp3 players and all you have to do is plug them in and copy your files. They work without issues/problems.
Why would anyone pay more money for an Apple mp3 player that is prone to problems that normal/real mp3 players do not have??? I really hate apple after messing with this. I dont see how they can cost more than regular mp3 players. -- ...brought to you by Carl's Jr. |

Apple does really well again Written by Nick Farell
Proving there is more than one born every minute
Apple managed to prove that you can fool most of the people all of the time if you have slick marketing and cut costs by using an Asian manufacturer who thinks his staff need to be treated like animals.
The outfit announced that it has had record quarterly revenues of $46.3bn powered by the sale of 37m iPhone devices, giving the company nearly $100bn of cash in hand. For those who came in late the sales figures in question were were the iPhone 4S which was a slightly uppowered version of the iPhone 4 with some talking search software which only worked in the US.
The Silicon Valley group reported record net profits of $13.06bn in its December quarter. Apple shares jumped nearly 10 per cent in after-market trading. Shares had been down since the death of Steve Jobs. Wall Street had expected revenues of $38.8bn with sales of about 30m iPhones, Sales of models including the 4S in the December quarter were up 128 per cent on a year earlier, while Apple also sold 15.43m iPads, representing sales growth of 111 per cent.
Tim Cook, chief executive, said Apple had ended the quarter with a significant order backlog for the iPhone. He had bet that fanboys would be dumb enough to queue for a phone which was practically the same as the one they owned and ordered his Chinese manufactures to crack the whip and turn out more of the things. He was right.
Apple said it expected revenues of about $32.5bn in the current quarter and earnings per share of about $8.50. Wall Street analysts forecast $32bn and $8.00 in earnings per share. |

| reply to r81984 I think the music and movie industries are responsible for the 5 computer limit. Apple was, early on, the most visible and obvious media player retailer, and when they came out with iTunes to support their players, they had to design it to keep the RIAA and MPAA happy. Blame them.
There are other programs IIRC that will move music on to iDevices. I think a forum called iLounge or something might be a place to check on this.
I have an older iPhone and use iTunes. I only have the device set for 2 systems.
There might be a way to set the player to authorize for non of the five and use fresh systems, and a call to Apple might help.
I don't like the limitation either. I like how well iTunes organizes music, other programs require a great deal more effort to do the same thing, but the limitations of iTunes suck. The RIAA and MPAA suck, where were they when we were all copying tapes? It's greed but honestly, I don't blame Apple as much as I do those two entities. -- Join Teams Helix and Discovery. | You know, Artists deserve to be paid, but sadly, this isn't about the artists, it's about the billionaire executives and their greed. I used to be a musician and of course I wanted to be supported for the art that I provided others so I could afford my equipment and instruments and costs, and if it had become a vocation, so I could live and eat. I understand an artist wanting to be supported, but the RIAA behaves like a prostitute rather than like a business. They will steal your money and your ID, they will give nothing in return, they are in it for the fast cash, and they are like junkies.
Music should be about the Artist, not the damned studios and fatcat executives who sponge off of talent. In most cases, the artists resent the RIAA as MUCH as the consumer does.
Imposing all these endless restrictions and expenses works against the organic nature of sharing art and its appreciation. The RIAA is like a union gone to hell, run by mafia, and no longer representing the best interests of their clients.
Because of the RIAA great music from Europe and Asia doesn't make its way into the USA, the industry isolates America from the rest of the world artistically. That bites.
Being a musician of sorts, I WANT artists to be paid. It's sad many of them have to take the distribution of their works in their own hands and deal directly with the public, like how Radio Head did. And what Radio Head did worked, in spite of the fact that the RIAA still had their mitts into the band's profits. -- Join Teams Helix and Discovery. | reply to r81984 Remove all products from your life and youll be better off and happier. Apple is a true pain in the ass to deal with unless you surrender your freedom to choose and your right to play and customize and commit 100% to their extremely closed ecosystem.
Up until a few years ago, all iTunes purchased music had DRM. The DRM limited each song to only be authorized to be played to up to five computers at a time and you could only playback the song using iTunes as the media player. Then they came out with iTunes Plus which for 30 cents more per song you could download it DRM free, and then all music became DRM free. I was a fool and purchased a lot of music on iTunes back when I went through my 15 year old girl phase and owned both an iPod and iPhone. Then I upgraded all of my music to the iTunes Plus format so I could play my music on a real media player, Winamp, not that shitty poor excuse iTunes. Now I just use the Android Market for music, add the music to my Winamp library and synch with my Sony Walkman. My phone and tablet gain access to my music via Googles music cloud. I cant wait in a few months for when Sony releases the Walkman Z in the US. -- 2011 Time Warner Cable Forum @ DSLReports Poster Of The Year! Voted Unanimously on by ChillyCat and Elyria!

I never once saw itunes as good way to download music. I started downloading in the 90s with AOL file storage and IRC, then to napster and morpheus, then to torrents before I was 18. First we just burned music to CDs. Commercially available mp3 players were for sale in 1998 over 3 years before the ipod was released in about 2001. They were much better than the ipod when it first came out. I never once saw ipod as something worth buying due to its outrageous price compared to other mp3 players that had more memory.
Then a few days ago trying to copy song to a friends ipod turned into an impossible task for no good reason. Every other mp3 just works. -- ...brought to you by Carl's Jr. |

I still use my Cowon iAudio X5L that I purchased years ago.
Sound quality is great, plays just about any audio format out there. No software required, acts like a USB mass storage device when plugged into any computer. Nice solid feel to it. Very long battery life (when it was new).
My only complaint with it is the proprietary connector. I would much rather have a standard USB connector on the device itself.
Unfortunately the battery is starting to give out after all these years. Fortunately, replacement shouldn't be too difficult as it is held together by 4 screws, much easier than iPods to open up. |

Between all devices I've used to play music (iPod Touch, Android Phone, Sandisk MP3 players, cheapo mp3 player, CD MP3 player, a whole lot of different computers....) I never really noticed a difference in sound quality... maybe because I'm not using 100$ earphones.
Anyway, right now, my Google Nexus S with the Winamp app does the job pretty well. |

 | reply to r81984 I actually enjoy my ipod touch and itunes. Never had a problem with either one. I wouldn't like them as much if I couldn't jailbreak though. I don't really have much choices as the apps I use don't have android equivalence.
Do wish Apple could not "optimize" images that are synced to the ipod :| Looks like shit. |
