| [Network] My IP Address Is In Atlanta? Really??? That's what the guy at ESPN tried to tell me when I asked why I was being blacked out from viewing the U of Miami basketball game last night on ESPN3. After that, I tried calling WS and first went through the "let's reset your connection" routine so as of this moment I don't have exactly the same IP I had earlier. When I did get through to someone, he couldn't explain it either.
Is ESPN's story on the level? If yes, does my service usually get routed through Atlanta or does it change on any given day? I normally wouldn't care how WS chooses to route my service, but I would actually like to see the events I'm allegedly allowed to view. If the situation was reversed, and my Atlanta IP allowed me to view an event that was supposed to be blacked out, I would guess that someone-somewhere would maybe be upset about it? |

Dynamic IPs are pulled from a common pool (there are a limited amount of IP addresses for everyone), so that being said it is possible your IP was used by a person/company in Atlanta that may have done something to get that IP blacklisted (spam, pirate). We had an issue last week in PA where we re-routed customers through different equipment to avoid a fiber cut, but even that doesn't explain your trouble. Were you able to see the basketball game after your modem was assigned a new IP address?

WindstreamPremium,VIP join:2009-03-31 Twinsburg, OH kudos:28 | My pleasure. Let me know if it happens again so that I can have our Network analysts run a few test on our system, your IP, both the firewalls in your PC, modem, and our Network. I am curious as to what would have been the cause of your issue.

AZinOH join:2007-04-25 Swanton, OH | FYI at 7PM ET 2/1 I am blacked out from watching the GA Tech/FLA St basketball game. It's not a game I care about...just checking per your request.
