Re: Is it true Teksavvy Cable goes by an "honour" syst To the best of my knowledge, Rogers measures usage centrally at York Mills for all Ontario Rogers customers. Rogers doesn't measure usage at the local POIs, so not even Rogers can measure a Teksavvy customer's usage at this time.
I've seen the threads the cerebus is talking about, and my understanding agrees with what he has said.
I've never seen Teksavvy people say anything about requesting usage data from Rogers about customers, or Rogers ever telling Teksavvy anything about individual customer usage. It might happen, but the first I've heard it mentioned is what Arcturus said today. It needs some verification to be believed. |

 | reply to Sanek Actually off-peak unlimited downloading is only for DSL users.
Lots of conflicting information on this topic. I'm just going to by what Teddy Boom and a few others have said in that they can't track your usage. |

Disappointed its DSL-only, I sort of expected this to take some load off the peak-times if people were more inclined to download in the off-peak period. |

But of course it does take some load off the peak times. It is too bad Teksavvy hasn't thought of some statement that will effect cable users usage patterns, but anything explicit would reveal too much about the missing cable usage meter.. Also, if a cable usage meter is coming, they may not be able to tell what time of day usage happens. So, any statement they could make today might have to change. It is kind of a mess..
Let's put it this way.. If you want to help Teksavvy and Teksavvy users out, go ahead and treat your cable line as unlimited from 2am till 8am (or noon, really). However, treat it as capped at 100GB/month for evening usage. Subject to change with minimal notice |

| reply to Aftcomet Teksavvy definitely came out over the summer saying that they could request usage from Rogers for specific customers for usage.
Usage is averaged every two months so 600GB per 2 calender months. If you used 400Gb one month but only pull 150Gb the next, you're still under the cap. Honestly, Teksavvy are very generous with their caps. Most people won't get anywhere near the caps on regular use.
The problem is when people abuse their lines. i.e. pulling 1TB, 2TB every month on the regular plan. That's when you start running into trouble. I don't think there's a maximum overage policy in place for teksavvy. I stand to be corrected. If you find a $300 bill, that's the consequences of not paying $12 extra per month.
Average users know who they are and power users know who they are as well. Just be fair on usage and pay the amount you use. It's that simple. It's only one of the few ISP companies in Canada that still have an unlimited usage plan. There's no reason to try and cheat the system. |

| reply to Aftcomet Its the simple problem of the amount of effort required (time == money) to communicate, retrieve and process such a small amount of money typically is not worth it. Breaking even to ask you customers for a few bucks here and there is a bad business investment.
Ive always been on unlimited and I really wont miss the $10 a month anyway. I would rather pay a company who provides me a good service at a fair price.

 | reply to Aftcomet I pay for unlimited for 2 reasons --
1) So i dont have to worry about my overages 2) Because its a fair and rrasonable price even if i only use 60 GB a month
The price in crease of Feb 2? still cheaper than Rogers. |

 | reply to Aftcomet Just found these new terms on their website:
2 Month Rolling Average
TekSavvy will manage usage based on a rolling 2 month average.
Rolling average is the total usage during a given period.
How the Rolling average works.
Every month, we will average the usage for the two previous months. If the average exceeds the Customers cap, we will automatically roll them over to the unlimited plan. Our customers will be notified when this rollover happens.
So therefore no more $0.50/GB. You'll automatically be put on unlimited. Downloads away! |

Zoinks join:2011-12-06 Whitby, ON | reply to Aftcomet I called TSI last month due to concerns with my bandwidth usage. My usage jumped to 1.7TB in one day!! Turns out my bandwidth monitor was not configured properly. TSI I spoked with did mention that they are not monitoring cable traffic at the moment. He did say that a usage monitoring tool is on the works, and might be release this month, and that only then will they actively enforce usage caps. |
