 | [Speed] Speed Issues Just North of Columbus Ohio Hello,
For the past several weeks I have been having extremely slow download speeds. I have the 10Mbps package from Insight.
Here are the facts:
I live just North of Columbus Ohio. When I goto SpeedTest.net to run a test I am lucky to get 1-2Mbps down. However my upload speed 100% of the time during these tests is just under 1Mbps. The ping to the Columbus server is well over 100ms.
Since I am not home during weekdays I am unsure if the problem exists at all times of the day. I do know that it starts at around 17:30 PM and lasts until at least midnight when I goto bed on weekdays.
This past weekend the tests showed the same issues throughout the day starting as early as the early afternoon.
No signal issues can be found by the tech.
A tech has came out to my house two times. The first time was before 17:30 on a weekday. He was not seeing any of the issues I stated above (lack of speed, dropped packets, high latency). He hooked up a pc he brought with him directly to the cable modem to bypass my network. No signal issues can be found by the tech. He did replaced the cable modem with a different one. Later that night the problem came back. I tested with my PC directly connected to the cable modem to confirm.
He came back the next evening at about 19:30. He saw the issue first hand just as I described above (lack of speed, dropped packets, high latency). He connected his PC directly to the cablemodem and saw the high pings and some dropped packets, as well as speed issues. So he went to the basement and put the cablemodem on its own direct link to the box outside. He also replaced ALL splitters (including at the main box outside) on the side of the house, and everyone of them leading to the modem itself. The problem is still here.
He said he has turned the issue over to Insight. I believe he works for a company (Precision Broadband) that is subcontracted by Insight. I guess they (Insight) are going to send a team of people out to check it out according to the tech. Can anyone help me out on anything I can do from here? Ive worked in IT for the past 10 years at a forutune 100 company and this has all of the hallmarks of an issue outside of my house based on the network troubleshooting Ive done. And especially considering there is no signal issue. |

 | Sounds like the typical Insight Cable over-selling the node issue. You have to wait until they either upgrade the node to something that can handle more customers, or until they add another node nearby and split off the customers in that area to two nodes. With either solution you're looking at a long wait I'm afraid. |

| reply to Xtabi What part of columbus? Not my chance near Blendon Woods/ Cherrybottom Rd? As I've been battling this with them for months, last tech they had out a few weeks ago handed it over to Maintence who found water in one of their line amps. It was back to normal or less than a day, and then back in the crapper. Its bad when 6meg DSL is more stable then RR Turbo is, though it took just short of a act of congress to get the DSL this stable. |

 | reply to Xtabi I've been having the same problem in Northern Kentucky for the past few months. The sale of the company? Insight was great, but since January the log on speed is rediculous. Maybe in C'bus, Time Warner is selling the reputation for great speed and service we had here in Kentucky?
Hope it helps. |

 | reply to Xtabi Hey, I just thought about something. The speed test, that you reference in your post, is that an Insight site speed test site? Off of a link from the same site? |
