Gemstelecom. Does anyone here use them?

I was wondering if anyone has used the ISP "Gemstelecom".

Perhaps you would care to share what the service is like? What the support is like? What situation you have run into? Turn-around time to fix issues? And if you used their Videotron Cable or Bell DSL?

Thanks!

As a reseller we have been using Gemstelecom since 2009, the cable issue is not controlled by TPIA but the Videotron, no major issue since 2009. They specialize in white label wholesale solution and have quite a few resellers under them. Most of the clients they have are for business. Gemstelecom is company under Cronomagic (cronomagic.com), which is in hosting business since 1993, long before lot of other ISP's in the reagion.

Used both Cable and DSL, for my experience Cable is much better, DSL is OK too, most issues are from Bell

Nice people to deal with.

Just got connected with Gemstelecom, took exactly 7 days from first contact and everything went smooth so far. Free modem with signup on a month to month: 10$ delivered, or free pickup from their offices.

I signed up for their "Quebec Special" 39.99$ for 8/1Mbps unlimited and here are my results:

Edit: got java working

So far so good.

I think you need Java installed to check the packet loss on pingtest.

so, has anyone else got connected to them?

I signed up for their special, but when they called me, they said their service would only be available mid to late march in my area.

The modem is a motorola sb5101, and the router is " a basic TP-link N router".

Question: Do you have to cancel Videotron line before signing up with this company? Isn't it their job to cancel it for you?

No, you always have to cancel when you change Internet providers.

They only (and even then not always) cancel for you when you switch phone companies and port your number.

@fcibroadband.com

Just got a confirmation order already!
Picking up my modem today.
Install tomorrow by videotron.
Looking promising... 8 days since order had been submitted.

Glad to hear that some are actually having better luck than I did...

Could not get a straight answer from them on when a possible install date (in Gatineau)... decided to go with Teksavvy instead.

they told me mid to late March. It's probably like ebox, they are waiting on Videotron to do some work to connect them, I guess. Ebox does not have a from date on Gatineau hook ups either.

I'm having doubts about this company, never got a straight answer from them, I'm scared to sign up with 1yr contract.... what to do?

They tell me I can't keep my videotron phone service if I want to switch out to their internet. Is that true?

You should be able to keep your videotron phone, have you considered Ebox?

QCuser

@videotron.ca

Yes I have but for 39.99 unlimited with gems its hard to pass up. If these people are lying to me about having to switch the phone as well then I will switch to ebox!

If you switch to Ebox mention LM39 as your code. You can keep your videotron phone with them.

not every TPIA is able to offer you service if you keep your Videotron phone. I think Distributel can't, Ebox can, don't know about others. Don't know why.

What do you mean, you never got a straight answer? You are the second person saying this. It does not sound good at all. They could not answer you, or would not? I am thinking of signing up with them too, so any feedback would be great.
