You have a picture? I'm not familiar with the part but I have an idea of what you're talking about... I think.

Unfortunately no. The best description I can give is that it's a box that will hold 2 x 3.5in. sas/sata drives, has the backplane for sockets and connectivity via a cable to the existing 8 port drive chassis backplane. This box slides into an opening at the top front just below the cd/dvd rom drive.

Thanks for looking, not having any luck so far.

Here's an example on ebay. Not many listed, and the part numbers didn't want to pull anything up. »www.ebay.com/itm/New-DELL-PowerE···62064833.

Do you need it to specifically support SAS or will you be putting SATA drives in it? If SATA, then for that price I'd just get a 3 drive, 2 bay model from Newegg for a LOT cheaper. Sure it won't be factory looking but I'd take cheaper over factory looking any day right now

Yeah, I have no idea what kind of interface that thing was supposed to be but not anything of use to me.

Is this for someone else? The Dell part you seek is SAS but its backwards compatible with SATA drives. That's why I asked, because if you only plan to stick SATA drives in it, there's much cheaper alternatives. But if it's for a customer or something then might want to get them what they asked for.

There's something else that interests me. The Dell 2900 likely has a PERC 5i card in it with two 4x SAS ports for a total of 8 SAS drives. The 2900 should come with 8 SAS bays already. If that's the case, where does this module connect without another RAID card? My 2950's don't have any onboard SAS ports and if they do they are likely single ports, not the connector that shows on that ebay listing. I suspect he 2900 also doesn't have any extra ports. Wonder if there's a RAID card that's supposed to come with that module as well (which would account for some of the cost).

This Dell 2900 was custom ordered by me for work. It has a Perc 6i internal raid card. You may recall I posted about this same system in another forum here regarding upgrading disks in an ESXi 4 server.

To be honest the one I posted should have been the same part for considerably cheaper but since he didn't list a part number it's hard to say. The MFG part number tends to change as they use different suppliers. I've seen identical items with different "part numbers". In any case, if you are happy with what you ordered that's all that matters.
