 | [speed/latency] speed question/ help Just installed DSl. It will be one week on wed. Just wondering if there is anything that can be done to make it faster. I'm on the 3mb package and the last week of bandwith tests i have been getting 1.50-1.56/up and .35/down. that is on both laptops on wireless, and my desktop with a gig lan is getting 1.03/down and .26/up, but that is another issue as i booted linux puppy from usb on that computer and ran the same test and got the same results as the laptops above so thats a software issue (i'm guessing) Anyway I was just expecting a little faster due to my distance. This is with the verizon actiontec GT704WG Here are the line specs

In addition the dsl is capable of faster speeds Attainable Rate (Downstream/Upstream):11672/1088 Kbps

 | reply to tangstang79 i believe the option was 1.1-3mb and the other was 1mb. My girlfriend ordered it and i told her to tell them she wanted the fastest they had. So maybe they only offer the speed that i'm getting? |

 | reply to tangstang79 Alright, I'm happy with what we have considering our location the closest town is about 10 miles. I was just trying to dig for more. lol The last place I lived we were 2 miles out of the town but we couldn't get cable or dsl. So i had hughesnet, atleast i don't have a bandwidth limiter to be watching daily. |

| reply to tangstang79 Pretty sure the line can do better. ADSL2+ and your distance, the line should be running at higher margins unless you're on 26aWg wiring all the way back to the CO or RT. 5-7Mbps should also be doable on that line without an issue. 3Mbps at this point should have been given, not 1.5Mbps. |

1 edit | reply to tangstang79 I work with my soon to be neighbor, hes building the house next door. He should be moved in sometime in the next 3 weeks or so, I'll wait for him to get the service and see what speed he is getting, if he's getting the same then i know they are holding it back, if not then i will try to hunt down the problem
We are in a very rural area and i would guess the phone lines are the original ones that were here when phone service was first installed whenever that may had been.
Smith6612, I would just like to add, I just checked out your verizon review, looks good. |
