1 edit | U-verse TV & Internet Install Gastonia,NC (Charlotte suburb) I wanted to post my experience with U-Verse after all the bad rep I read online the past week or so. Tomorrow is my scheduled Installation for U-Verse TV and Internet. On Jan. 27th, 2012 I ordered online:

After ordering I immediately setup an installation date online for Jan. 31st, 2012 between 1PM-4PM. I received a confirmation email of my order later that night and today Jan. 30th, 2012 the day before my installation I received a reminder email of my scheduled installation tomorrow between 1PM-3PM. The email said installation on average takes about 4hours. I will update this post tomorrow once I hear from my U-Verse Tech.
I will be having U-Verse installed into my living room(HDTV+DVR), and bedroom(SD box). My internet setup right now is in my living room by my TV setup. I have a fairly recent Linksys Wireless N router running DD-WRT firmware that I want to become the DMZ+ tomorrow and maintain my wireless after they setup everything else. If anyone has any recommendations for equipment or setups please let me know before 12PM tomrorrow!
Update - Updating this post to show that I DO NOT have HD Service, my mistake, it is an extra $10/month, decided to wait til my wife's paychecks start coming in! -- Join The Fight against Media Censorship www.blackthisout.com |

| U-Verse line tech called me about 9am to make sure I was home and to tell me he was on his way. He needed to get into our locked storage closet outside our back door to test the drop coming into our apartment. After about 15minutes he knocked on my door and said he was done. I asked him how the signals were and he said "they looked great" and that I could get Max Turbo service here if I wanted it at a later time. He confirmed the install tech will be out here between 1PM-3PM. Since I know the lines are good I may opt for the "Max Plus" tier instead of the "Max" tier I ordered. More after the tech comes later. -- Join The Fight against Media Censorship www.blackthisout.com |

1 edit | reply to freakout9903 1:15 I received a call from the Installation Tech telling me he would be here between 1:45-2:00pm. He showed up at 2:00pm and I was shocked when he put on shoe covers before coming into the house. The tech asked if anyone else from ATT had been out here yet in the past day or so and I told him about the Line Tech that came out this morning to check the signals coming into my apartment and showed him where that was. He told me installation could take up to 4 hours and immediately brought in his tools and got started. He seems to be very neat with the wiring so far. I think he is running a wire into the apartment for the gateway directly from where the drop comes into my apartment's outside storage area. He also neatly ran a cat5e wire under the carpet where need be and through the wall into my bedroom for my other tv. Will update more when he's done. -- Join The Fight against Media Censorship www.blackthisout.com |

1 edit | reply to freakout9903 The Tech finished the entire installation in about 2 1/2 hours. Before he left he demo'd the U-Verse TV and Remote. Internet I just made sure was working through the 2wire gateway with my laptop before he left. After he left I hooked up my linksys router running DD-WRT and gave it the WAN IP by making it the DMZ+ in the 2wire gateway settings, I disabled HPNA & the built in wireless on the 2wire gateway since I am not using either. Before I setup my linksys router as DMZ+ pages had a wierd delay, even when in the 2wire configuration pages, after my linksys was hooked up - not a hiccup. Also I noticed the 2wire gateway only had b/g wireless, my linksys has b/g/n another reason to use my own router. I ran my first speedtest and am happy with the speeds. I ordered the 12/1 Max Internet & receive exactly that.

When it comes to the TV, I have whole house DVR, and HD ready boxes in both rooms. My living room box is hooked to my HDTV with an HDMI cable, although I didn't get the HD Service/Channels yet as it's an extra $10/month and me and my wife didn't see a need for it even when we had Time Warner Cable, it's just more channels to memorize imo. The SD channels I get are clear, no pixel problems, and channel switching is much quicker than Time Warner Cable. In my bedroom I have an old 14in TV hooked up via coax to the hd ready box, no problems in there either. I will take some pictures of the install later and add them to the post. Overall, I am happy, will let you know how things go! -- Join The Fight against Media Censorship www.blackthisout.com |

| reply to freakout9903 Not quite sure whats good/bad when it comes to a VDSL signal but I figured I would post mine. Although it shows 32mbit/5mbit, I do only get my packaged speeds of 12mbit/1mbit, not sure if that's the max the modem can do, or if that rate includes the TV signal traffic.
User Rate 32221 kbs 5047 kbs Max User Rate 73593 kbs 12139 kbs Noise Margin 26.6 dB 19.7 dB Attenuation 9.7 dB 11.1 dB Output Power 12.1 dBm -15.7 dBm Protocol G.993.2 Channel Interleaved
Also just noticed this is VDSL2 by the specified protocol above, maybe they will be bumping up the tiers sooner than at once thought. -- Join The Fight against Media Censorship www.blackthisout.com |

| Your stats look great. Max rate is OTC, you must be really close to the VRAD, but would expect the attenuation to read somewhat higher w/ that on a 32M prof, but it's not a prob.
VDSL2 been running & provisioned for quite a while now. Have 12/1 here to, stable as can be. |

Here's a graph of NM v. Max rate that Somejoe7777 compiled from UVrealtime data a year ago. Your max rate is so nice, it's virtually an anomaly. |

| Thanks for the explanations and graphs. I have had cable internet for the past 8 years or so. Just getting to know all the stats/info for this. Guess I got real lucky living where I am, there are tons of housing developments and apartment complexes within a mile or so, and more being built. -- Join The Fight against Media Censorship www.blackthisout.com |

| reply to freakout9903 Just to note, the box in my bedroom the ISB7000 started having freezing/blue screen/random rebooting problems. I called tech support yesterday and went through the automated tech support before they let me talk to a tech.
When you first call in they reset all your boxes remotely, then tell you to call back if there is a problem, then when you call back they tell you how to reset your box by holding down the power button for 10 seconds, then tell you to call back if you are still experiencing a problem, then when you call back you finally get a support tech who takes you through disaster recovery(with the gears), and after that they set you up with an appointment(next day at 8am in my case).
The tech called a little before 8am and was here right on time.
The 30 minutes the tech was here my box decided to work normal. I still got him to replace the box, and he gave me a IPN330HD. The IPN330HD looks identical to the ISB7000 just it's gray instead of black, and the back ethernet port has indicator lights like a computer, while the ISB7000 did not. Otherwise it seems to function identical to the ISB7000.
So far so good(don't want to jinx it) but it's been working without a problem for a couple hours now. If all stays well I will be very satisfied with the support/service. Personally I think Uverse kicks the crap out of TWC when it comes price, dvr features, and on demand. I had 4 shows record at once last night and a total of 8 different things record without a hiccup last night. -- Join The Fight against Media Censorship www.blackthisout.com |

dbeatsonPremium join:2001-02-22 Clover, SC | The black DVR is known for this problem, there were some work arounds that have been successful for other users, including using ethernet instead of HPNA, and component cables instead of an HDMI cable.
The only difference you will notice between the two models the newer one the black has a larger hard drive and can hold more DVR recording versus the older silver model. Although if you are only recording SD and not HD you should still have plenty of space available. -- »www.w4lny.com |

| In my situation it's NOT the DVR(ISB7500), but the other STB I have in another room. The Black DVR(ISB7500) I have is working mint(it has a 500gb hard drive) & since they swapped my ISB7000 for the IPN330HD everything is running perfect in both rooms. -- Join The Fight against Media Censorship www.blackthisout.com |

| Just want to add to the whole experience that I have received my first bill. It was $2 MORE than what the order had showed me. The High Speed Internet Fee as of 2/1(my second day of service) has increased from $4 to $6. They gave me a credit of $2 for my first month so my monthly fee is now $85/month1 $87/month2-6 $130/month7+. It's amazing to me how they can increase a fee over time for pretty much the same hardware. This was the tech's response to the increase:
Online Tech - "I understand but the price for High Speed Internet Equipment Fee is changed from 1st Feb." Online Tech - "Mr. freakout9903, I do understand your concerns. AT&T U-verse needed to adjust pricing due to high programming costs. You are receiving a great value in High Speed Internet and television service for your money." Online Tech - "We're continually making improvements to offer you even more value, more speed, and more ways to stay connected, including access to our AT&T Hotspots and U-verse Online, where you can view thousands of shows and movies(if you subscribe) on your PC." Online Tech - "In this case I can wave off $2 for this month."
The tech assured me I would see no more increases in my bill through my promotional period and I saved the chat in the event I need to write to AT&T in the future.
As for now I have had my service almost a month without any issues. My DVR rebooted once after I switched between HDMI inputs on my TV a few times(some sort of HDMI link bug I have read), and my ping times could be better but I knew what I was getting with vdsl2. My NetTalk Duo works great over U-Verse with only a few QoS settings on my DD-WRT router. TV and Internet have been stable and I couldn't be happier really...unless they billed me for what i ordered . -- Join The Fight against Media Censorship www.blackthisout.com |
