Wifi sucked badly - it kept dropping out constantly. Could barely chat on msn for 5 mins without dropping. That's why you have a 6gb data plan on your phone and tether! -- No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake....... |

Easier said than done thanks to the Doppler effect... while fixed point-to-point links have been demonstrated at Gbps speeds, fixed-to-high-velocity-mobile links are a whole other story with current standards maxing out at 40Mbps or so. |

Playing golf with certain key ottawa people, are we ????
Wifi sucked badly - it kept dropping out constantly. Could barely chat on msn for 5 mins without dropping. If you had been on a cell phone, would the same have happened ? In other words, are the dropouts due to the cellular network, or would it be due to lost packets due to congestion between the train's LAN and the cellular interface (too many people using it) |

 | said by elwoodblues:40mb is not bad, unless you are Angelo and downloading Linux Distro's on the train. That's 40Mbps divided between the 200+ passengers on the train and anyone else who may be operating other mobile devices within that cell that may be attached either directly or through WiFi bridge... and that is assuming the cell has enough spectrum to actually run that fast, which it probably doesn't either.
So 40Mbps isn't much... imagine what would happen if Rogers decided to go back to single-QAM nodes. |
