 | Creating coverage maps Hi all
I have just gone and created some coverage maps in radio mobile and have got them as kml files which google earth can read.
Does anyone know of a good guide to take the kml files and merge them into a google maps module to put on my website
Example is here »www.airnet.co.nz/coverage.html |

You might find something here that helps you:
»code.google.com/apis/maps/index.html |

 | I've gotten a dynamic one to work while on one of the google tutorial sites, but when I moved the code to a test site on my server it wouldn't work. I've settled (for now) on a static map. |
|
 | reply to raytaylor I managed to get it to half work.
Radio mobile spits out a kml with a png file that you host on your webserver and then you can create a google map to use it.
But the problem is that the kml just tells the google maps where to overlay the png image file. The result is that the coverage areas are not transparent and you cant auctually see what the map is displaying underneath the png image.
Eg. A suburb is completley washed out yellow and you cannot see the streets below it.
So i shall have to go back to static maps.
Probably a better idea because my customers coming from dialup will probably prefer a 100kb static png image to look at for their area, rather than a bandwidth intensive google maps interface. |

Sorry..
I found it from another website that was using it.. I want to say it was a wireless coverage mapping company site.
We just looked at the code and the web guys modified it to work for our needs. It was set up that so it had all our POPS and 360' coverage on the map. Customers could put in thier address and it would pull it up on the map and would show them if they had potential for coverage..
It even allowed them to individually unecheck pops if there were several overlapping etc..
I will have to find the orginal site now since I want to do the same thing again..
Here is one site similier but dont think this was the orginal one I found...

WVN @98.142.42.x | reply to raytaylor Ligowave has a link calculator on their website - support section - it will export in .kml format. I think that's the one you're looking for. |

|
 | Just go to google maps and enter a resolvable link to your kmz into the search bar, then generate your embed code.
Find example code here »dl.dropbox.com/u/460494/gmaps.html |

 | Also you can use the polygon tool to outline your service area from the ligo wave tool. then you can control the transparency to prevent area's from being hidden. |
|
 | reply to raytaylor Okay maybe I'll have to use the polygon tool. I was trying to avoid that by using radio mobile to generate proper coverage maps but i'll settle for it anyway. |
|
 | reply to raytaylor Thanks Ellery - i managed to get it working okay. Manual polygons was much easier than I thought and its come out really well
