 | Looking for a good softphone-only phone provider As the subject states, I'm looking for a VoIP provider for use only with a softphone. Does Vonage offer that? I checked their site, they apparently have a softphone option but I can't tell if they offer it as standalone. Or, is there a better option than Vonage? Any and all opinions welcome. |

Is there something about Vonage that otherwise suits your needs? I think they can do a softphone only, but there are many, many other providers that could do that, too. Callcentric, voip.ms, Anveo to name a few. |

 | Ok, I'll post over there as well.
As for Vonage, I've just heard good things about them, if those other services are recommended I'll check them out. |

1 edit | reply to Davel23 To my knowledge, Vonage does not offer a softphone only account. You must have an account using one of their hardware adapters, and then get a softphone add-on account. I do know that once I tried to close my primary account and keep only the softphone, and I was not allowed to do that.
The closest they ever came to offering a softphone only account was if you purchased their V-Phone USB adapter which was basically their softphone software on a USB stick that also had a built-in sound adapter and came bundled with a stereo headset/mike. Here is a link that describes that device: »support.vonage.com/app/answers/d···a_id/710
I don't think that device is marketed by Vonage anymore, probably because of problems using it with Windows Vista and Windows 7 (and also with locked down Windows XP installations), but you might call and ask (they may have thousands of them gathering dust on a warehouse shelf). -- History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. -- Dwight D.
