12mb ADSL2 wiring question

So I had 12mb turned on yesterday. Last nite as I was getting it setup I see in the modem that its only connected at 5mb. So talking to a buddy he says maybe only one pair is hooked up in the jack. I take the jack off the wall and discover that I've only got old 3 wire cable.

My question is do I need to run a homerun to get both pair to get the 12mb?

Thanks for any help.

Yes, Cat5/e homerun would def be a good thing to do if you can. As far as your buddy's advice, not sure what he was trying to tell you, but 1 pair is all that's needed.

If you have landline service, a whole house splitter/balun would be best if you decide to install a cat5/e homerun. Test your modem/rg at the NID if you can, see what results you get there.

Just my 2c.

Maybe he was saying make sure only one pair is hooked up, older house wiring a lot of the time will bridge from jack to another, this will degrade your signal you want a homerun CAT5 ethernet from that jack directly to you dmarc this will give you the best possible signal.

He was thinking that since its bonded pair that each pair would be a separate DSL and the modem bonded them together.
Been meaning to run a homerun anyway and I guess this is finally the motivation to do it.

Thanks for your replies.

Curious as to why your ref "bonded", you're not on an INId connection per your post. ??

Take the modem to the NID and use the test jack there before you change anything. If the speeds are similar then don't bother with the inside wiring for the time being.
