Re: LFD, why isnt this in ToR?

>>>>Inc Wall of Text

--From what I've put together in this thread, it seems everyone is looking for a few things.

A. To be able to do things other than sit at the Fleet while LFG
&
B. An easy/fast way to get to the Flashpoint

I personally feel that a cross-server (multiple servers) LFD is bad for a server's community. I use my experiences from Vanilla WoW and from Cata WoW as references for this.

In Vanilla WoW, everything that I can remember only involved your server. This allowed people to make a name for themselves, whether it be bad or good. Knowing this, whether sub-conciously or not, people wouldn't be complete jerks. Yes I know it's the internet and there are always those asshats around, but simply put, if you were known as a total douche-nugget, you would be passed up for a group. I ended up leaving the game mid-TBC for personal reasons.

Coming back last year to Cata WoW, The cross-server LFD system seemed like a great idea. Low(sorta) que-times, not having to travel the dungeon, etc. This was great for a while, that is, until you really get to see how asshatty people can be. I've seen it multiple times and have heard from multiple people on these very forums and in-game that a big reason this happens is because no one is being held accountable for anything that goes on in LFD. I'll be honest and say that this crap is one of the reasons I left the game after 5-6 months. You have an hour or so to do something; spend 30mins in que; item finally drops after doing the dungeon for the last two weeks and it gets taken by some asshat who laughs at you because he doesn't need the item and it's going to get vendored, says how hard he banged your mom while eating chocolate swirl cheesecake on a trolley, and drops group. This wouldn't be a big deal if it didn't happen all.the.time.

>That being said, I think the solution would be a combination of Vanilla and Cata(etc) WoW.

1. Implement some form of server-wide LFG chat.
---This would allow you to do other things while you search and wait for a group to form.

2. Add something along the lines of the summoning stones from WoW. Make it require only one person to summon (Teleport) people to the entrance. Used in conjunction with the Fleet Passes, this would the miniscule travel time a non-issue.

3. Or simply, a server-wide LFD type system could be added.

While I feel #3 would be the most convenient for the players, I think a combination of #1 + #2 would be easier to add to the game(faster addition?) and still takes care of the issues.

Add in the LFG tool pre-queue LFG tool from WoW. You set yourself LFG for specific dungeons/raids. You could browse it from anywhere.

Add a global LFG channel. Bash, with a HUGE hammer, anyone who uses it for non LFG purposes.

Add port to instances just like warzones.

I would feel alot better about the LFD tool if they changed how you roll on loot. There are only 4 classes for each faction. I think you should only be able to select need if your class or specialization can use the gear. If you cannot use the gear then you char would auto greed the item. Yes this isnt full proof but to me its better. Yes a bh dps could need on a piece a bh tank could need however a bh could never roll on a lightsaber or light armor. I think it would at least take out alot of ninjaing in the game.

And yes you wouldnt be able to need on companion gear however i would much rather go into a fp knowing its unlikely ill get ninja'd than thinking maybe ill get a companion piece. Also, i think this will make gear crafting skills in the game much more viable so now you may need them to gear companions instead of just looking for fps to gear them.

Yeah.. there should be a need, need for companion, and greed button.

I can get behind this. This would be a good compromise between an automated system and the current stand and yell system. It would be great if it could drop me back to where I was when I got the 'shuttle pickup' but again I could compromise and not have it so I could get the 'pickup' to the FP.

I would like it to allow you to set the role you want to play and allow the list to be filterable and sortable. Finally allow the list to be context sensitive so you can right click on the name and whisper or invite. The list would need to contain at least the players name, advanced class, role, and level.

Just having a global LFG chat channel isn't enough IMO.

If they don't implement a warp-to-fp like they have for warzones a very reasonable compromise would be to have a selectable list of "discovered" on-planet flashpoint shuttles that you can select from the fleet. Implement a cooldown or some kind of requirement to prevent usage by non-flashpoint players if that's a concern.

I think a global LFG channel turns into trade chat. Impossible to police. A global looking for group sortable list, maybe... but I know the planet and fleet LFG system within the /who menu is not used at all on the servers I'm on.

I think server wide LFG is the way to go. Look at the WZ system. Server wide and work awesomely. No complaints. Just do the same with LFG for PvE

I believe the upside to Drew's suggestion is it could be easier to extend it to Heroic quests on planets too. You just couldn't request a Heroic you don't have in your quest log and it would drop you at the nearest rez droid.

I like the ideas, Drew, however, gamers are naturally lazy. So, yes, they may put themselves in the LFG option, but then they have to actively pursue getting into a group or creating one.

Then you get the issue of people putting themselves in, forgetting about it and getting invited to a group an hour later and declining.

Honestly, a server side LFD queue is not a terrible idea, and I think there could be adjustments made to decrease players being douche bags.

Much like there is an MVP vote (does this do anything besides make you feel good about yourself?)

Perhaps something along the lines of an Ebay rating system after the flashpoint is done?

Those people are usually too lazy to look up how to play their class.

Those people are usually too lazy to heal/dps/hold aggro.

Those people are usually too lazy to move out of "fire"

I'm completely OK with leaving them out.

I agree it would be nice to have some sort of summoning capability at the FP's. The LFD WoW incorporated has definitely had its pros and cons but has made it easier for those short on playtime to quicky knock out a few runs.

In ToR the lack of this option can be irritating if you can't seem to get a group together in the time frame alotted to you but you should know going in that is a possibility with the current LFG setup. The part I have enjoyed about it is folks have seemed much more patient because they know they can't just bail; wait out a debuff and join up again.

I have run with more people that have never played any MMO prior to ToR so they have no idea even the basic concepts while grouping so some of us (including myself) that have years of background doing so can help them along the way as long as they are receptive and not being a dumbass about it. For the most part I have seen positive reactions when pointers or instruction is given by the more experienced community to those who aren't but are willing to learn. I don't mind spending an extra 30 min or whatever running a FP if someone is learning along the way and being positive about it.

WTB option to turn off cutscenes in Hard Modes. Yes, I can spacebar spam but it seems 75% of the population can't. I don't need to watch Black Talon cutscenes 100 times. I just want a fast run for my daily!
