1 edit | [Wireless] Is This The Correct Wireless Setup For My E4200v2? Here are my wireless settings. Should I have my Network Modes set to Mixed? My one 5GHz device has an N card. All of my 2.4GHz devices have N cards. They are:
5GHz
21.5" Mid-2010 iMac - Definitely an N
2.4GHz
Sony Laptop - Definitely an N Kindle Fire - Definitely an N Newer Roku XS - Definitely an N New Apple TV - Definitely an N Blackberry Bold 9900 - Definitely an N
Thanks.
EDIT: I guess, the question is, based upon my devices, will I get more speed if it is set to "N" only? Or does "Mixed" basically do the same thing? -- "Is there a 50's Cafe around here"? |

Mixed mode is used if you have a mix of b,g,a,N clients. Since all your clients are N you do not need to accommodate b,g,a
[Note added] Please be aware that performance is subject to matching technologies insofar as the N world is concerned. So regardless of the fact that ALL your clients are using N that does not necessarily means that all client will have optimal performance --- many factors are involved -- best performance is when all N clients use complimentary technology via the CHIP SETS implemented. So while N gear is superior to b,g,a gear NOT all N gear [specifically CLIENTS] are equal. Read my posts here for more info. |

 Settings |
I would highly advise the following settings with picture attached. A few notes though. Always use WPA2+AES which is the most secure. Linksys does not have a AES option but pretty sure it defaults to that when selecting WPA2. Have 2 different network names for each band. In your case with 2.4GHz band since you have all N devices. Use N mode and set a channel to either 1, 6 or 11. Those are the strongest channels for that band. I would also highly advise channel width be set to 20MHz for 2.4GHz band. Its being considerate for other neighbors and not to tick them off by using 40MHz. Hogging up the 2.4GHz band. |

1 edit | Thanks to both of you. When changing the Network Mode to "Wireless-N Only," the settings will only allow you to set the Security Mode on both 5GHz and 2.4GHz to either "WPA2 Personal", "WPA2 Enterprise", or "Disabled". No other choices are available. I have both set to "WPA2 Personal".
For Channel Width, I have both set to "Auto (20MHz or 40MHz)."
For Channel, 5GHz is set to "Auto," and for 2.4GHz, I have found that Channel 9 works pretty well. -- PR is back in town |

| Ah yes. WPA2 Personal would be the right security setting.
From the looks of things now, you're ready to go Good luck and happy web surfing. Be sure to wait 30 minutes after eating |

Hogging up the 2.4GHz band. Lately the Linksys router firmware have been disallowing the use of the 40MHz wide channel for the most part for just that reason. I mean I have mine set to auto 20MHz/40MHz and it always runs at 20MHz. This is good for the reason you mentioned but bad for us who actually do not have neighboring networks and want to use the 40MHz channel. |

| reply to KoRnGtL15 You see the problem is everyone else does the same thing and then you run into the problem of those channels having interferance. I mean when there is 16 networks on channel 1, 19 networks on channel 6, and 13 networks on channel 11, all trying to work in close proximity I hope you could see where problems could start. |
