Re: Extra outlets

said by bfksc:

I wasn't on shaky ground, I checked with Rogers head office to confirm that wiring installed by myself or third-party is NOT their responsibility and therefore they could not charge for wiring or outlets that is not theirs. This scenario actually was covered by the media many years ago when Rogers was screwing over seniors. All that has changed now though, with digital service.

So does this mean that if I used my own splitter, own drop amp, and my own RG-6 all the way from the main drop then rogers cannot charge extra outlet fees on all the outlets after the one that's included. If this is the case then I will be writing to the head office and see where I get with this but I just want someone to confirm this if its actually true or not. It just sounds too good to be true.

Also the outlet fees is not $ per outlet; it something like $6 for unlimited number of outlets if you need more than 1 outlet (1 outlet if already included). So if rogers gives me 1 outlet and I install all the other outlets myself with my own money then my understanding (from your post) is that rogers cannot charge me for extra outlets?

Doesn't matter now, Rogers is going all digital.

I got a notice from them stating that I needed a digital adaptor for any other devices on my line that are not connected to their digital boxes. Since I have 3 outlets, I got them to send me one out.

So, hooked the Cisco adaptor up, it tells me to contact my service provider. Which I do. They haven't a clue to what to do, so they transfer me, and the woman I was speaking to, told me it was their departments first activation (I am sure there were others, just not on her floor). Anyway, point is, these new boxes require you give Rogers the Cisco SN on the back (there are two SN numbers, the device SN and the Cisco SN, Rogers required the Cisco) which means you can no longer 'cheat' the system with extra TV's in analog.

Doesn't matter, I have VIP, but still. Guess I'll have to call soon to get my retention discount, damn, they should, I have Home Phone, Rocket Stick, Wireless, Internet and VIP Cable.

That's correct, Rogers can not charge you for your own internal wiring, your amps, splitters, etc.

However, as has been said here already, this doesn't apply to digital because you need a converter box for each outlet and they charge you for that regardless of the wiring situation.

For analog outlets, it's all yours and you can do what you want.
For digital outlets, Rogers has full control over what you can and can not do.
