CANNOT WAIT!!!

I never read the novels but I do know from a friend who did to expect the unexpected.

I'm afraid to read anything about GoT on the internet in fear that I'll find out plot twists and stories from the novels.

2 months... Least I have Spartacus and Walking Dead (in 2 weeks) to keep me busy until then.

I can't wait to see Joeffrey die. Hopefully a slow, painful death.

For those who have read the books: can we expect to see Daenerys kick ass with her dragons?

About the dragons (and this is very vague and only about the timeline of the dragons): The dragons have almost no value until book 5. In book 5 they are still very small (the size of cars) but you get a first taste and there are fatalities.

---

I just finished reading the 5th book. To me, books 2 & 3 were really dark overall. It seriously felt like I was getting punched in the stomach a few times reading those two books. Hang in there though, things really get cool later on.

---

If you want a little more vague info about what I mean about dark: Several evil characters die or suffer a fate worse than death - it's most satisfying. But, nothing really happens to any of them until the 4th book. You have to deal with books 2 & 3 being just a beat down of the good guys. For example, books 2 & 3 had moments that hit me a lot harder than Ned getting the axe at the end of book 1.

Another thing I'll say is that season 1 introduced only about 25% of the main characters and some main characters can actually disappear for long periods of time. For example, one main character disappears for 3 whole books before they returned. Lot's of characters disappear for 1 whole book. New main characters are slowly introduced through the first 4 books, and there's a unique story going on in each of the 7 Kingdoms. One of the new main characters I really liked appearing in book 2 was "Davos". So, one hard part of the books is really being into one of the POV's and then they just vanish for a long period of time. For example, at one point it seemed like I was reading chapter after chapter about Jamie and Cersie hating it and just wanting another chapter of Arya or Jon. Book 1 wasn't like this but the rest of the books are like 30 different short stories happening at the same time and sometimes you get into one of those POV's but there can be large periods of time where you don't get back to that POV.

The author is really crafty though. Never trust anything you hear - only trust what you see (which lol - you could say "words are wind" and "a river dancer sees with their eyes").

Good guys? Bad guys? No such thing. Some are more evil than others, while some are more honorable, but there is no definite line. My favorite characters are Sandor, Jaime, and Arya. You couldn't line any of them up along good or bad, in my opinion. Sure, some fit the bill, but Martin does a good job of giving us enough information to eliminate the stark black and white, seeing the motivations behind decisions made by each character. That's what I liked most about the books. Like real life, there's no real good or bad, but people with personal motivations.

That said, I too can't wait. I know what points are going to be touched upon, or can speculate having read the series multiple times, and am very excited.

You know I read where the author said he didn't see any problem keeping ahead of the TV show, and the last two 5 year gaps between books was due to so many POV's converging (time-wise) at one place. I really hope the last two books come out quickly.

The thing is though... unless they split a book into two different seasons, he'd have to have the last book (#7 currently) out by mid 2016. The first 3 books did come out 2 years apart. It doesn't seem likely but can he really get the last two books out by 2016 in time for season 7 to start filming? (crosses fingers).

2011 - season 1
2012 - season 2
2013 - season 3
2014 - season 4
2015 - season 5 -- book 6 has to come out by here
2016 - season 6 -- book 7 has to come out by here
2017 - season 7

The cliffhangers in book 5 are killing me.

Shoot, I'm worried he'll LIVE to finish the books.

And my biggest cliffhanger is Brienne on a rope. And I want to see Gregolum fight Sandor (alive and well in the monastery - will fight as a champion of the church against Cersei's champion, Gregolum). Almost sure that will happen.....

And come on, Jon's not dead. That's the one character I don't think he can kill. He may be maimed, but not dead.

1 edit

The author stated he already turned over the major plot points to the publisher in case of his death. And we know several chapters are already done for book 6. In fact, this June the paperback edition of A Dance With Dragons comes and and will include a 2nd sneak peak chapter from the 6th book.

Brienne spoiler last we saw of her she was leading Jamie to what she claimed was Sansa waiting for him. That was later referenced in on of the final chapters as well. Brienne's last POV page left her hanging, but she came back in Jamie's later POV chapter (with her sword, urging him to come with her alone to meet Sansa).

Sandor spoiler According to two different characters, he's dead and the lemon night is the one wearing his hound helm. If he isn't actually dead, he hasn't got his helm and he's not a guy that can go un-noticed.

Jon spoiler Biggest theory for him is that Lyanna and Rhaegor actually ran away to get married (not kidnapped) and Jon is their true-born son. Rhaegor was already married though. The biggest guess is that the stabbing will cause him to be reborn as Azor Ahai. "Smoke" rose out of his first knife wound, his dire wolf has red eyes - the same color as the priestess, and he should actually be the son of Rhaegor Targaryan (so he is both a Stark Warg and has Targaryan (fire) blood.

OK - Here's my idea on what you're saying. I have to re-read dance:

Brienne: Unsure who she is leading Jaime to. Any guesses? I don't think they're headed to the Eyrie.

Sandor: Lem is wearing his helm, but Sandor's not dead. When they went to the church isle, if you recall, there was a huge man in a cloak and hood digging a grave. He had an awful limp. And there was a black stallion in the stables. That's him, and he is being healed by the church.
Here's a good analysis by someone else:
»asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/to···nalysis/

Jon: Totally agree.

I'm also keenly interested in Arya's future, as well as how Theon will play into things further. He's alive for a reason.
