| 4:3 monitor? I need some large-ish (20-25 inch) "standard" (non-wide aspect) monitors for work -- does anyone make these any more? Wide screens are great for knowledge workers but for clerk type people who use a single app that's built for 1024x768 a 24" widescreen just isn't very large. -- I love the Green Bay Packers. /facepalm |

This was the standard monitor here but new purchases are coming with the U2412M's, a 1920x1200 24" widescreen.
It's worth noting that if vertical space is your concern, a 1920x1200 obviously has the same vertical space as the 1600x1200 but I agree 1920x1080 or smaller are inferior for most work. |

| Yeah, I have a couple of the Dell 20" LCDs at home. I'm a big fan of 1080 for "regular" office folks. The Dells are overkill for what these people are doing, but if management wants to cater to people who won't wear eyeglasses once they turn 50, who am I to argue? -- I love the Green Bay Packers. /facepalm |

| reply to jester121 If you can live with a used one, see if freecycle.org has a local group where you are. Also give Staples a look-see...they have some for under $100. If this app is going to be around for more than a couple more years, you might want to order a spare or 2 since 4:3s will in all likelihood be extinct before too much longer. -- "Dance like the photo isn't being tagged; love like you've never been unfriended; and tweet like nobody is following." |

jester121Premium join:2003-08-09 Lake Zurich, IL | Good ideas DC, thanks. The vendor keeps promising "next version" but until recently it wouldn't even scale beyond 800x600, so I'm not holding my breath. -- I love the Green Bay Packers. /facepalm |

| The custom application we use doesn't have scalable fonts or windows, so it HAS to run at 1024x768 now. They were used to their monitors set to 800x600 (some elderly women who are set in their ways). Even on a 19" they complained, and since my idea to fire them all and replace them with newer models didn't fly, this was the compromise. -- I love the Green Bay Packers. /facepalm |

| reply to jester121 4:3 is pretty much extinct but, if you want large screen real estate and (it sounds like) high res is not so much a big deal, have you looked at any 30+" 720p screens?
Roughly $300 gets you 32" with native resolution of 1366x768. Would be great for that application perhaps! eg: »www.amazon.com/Sceptre-X320BV-HD···0&sr=1-6 -- My Site |
