1 edit | New Satellite Internet Technology? I heard that there is going to be a new technology in satellite internet that will greatly increase speeds? It's supposed to be faster than the typical HughesNet, Wildblue etc.
Does anyone know anything about this?
I only saw a short snippet about it on some tech blog once and hoped someone could shed some light on the subject.

kudos:5 | It is not so much new technology as it is higher capacity satellites. It will also not be faster than the typical Hughes or WB because it will BE the typical Hughes and WB.
The WB/ViaSat satellite is operational, with installs that began last week.
The Hughes satellite is scheduled to launch later this year.

It is all marketing talk. The caps are actually smaller on the new satellite. :/ It does come with much faster speeds, but what good are they when the caps are smaller? At the speeds they are offering it would literally only take a few hours to use your entire 30 day limit. |

Yeah, I think you will see some much more respectable caps with HN when Jupiter gets up there and online, but then again, you never know. I suspect though that from the enhancements they are doing now that HN is going to focus alot on better caps with Jupiter even if it costs them in the speeds they can offer somewhat. Probably what they will do is keep speed related plans and offer lower priced plans with lower caps AND speeds on up to the high end packages with the higher caps and speeds just like they do now instead of an all in deal on the speeds like viasat did. But it is all conjestor untill that satellite is up and HN releases their plans for it.
