Re: [Weather] Winter?

I'm happy not getting much snow here. Means the roads are cleaner and less chance for idiot drivers to pull their stuff and get into accidents. The snow will come, it always does, but I'm fine with this warm delay.

I hit the road after I shoveled everything and some moron taxi driver comes out of his apartment driveway, he hadn't cleaned a bit of snow off the top/back of his car.

The entire back was covered in snow. Damn cops should have nailed his ass for obstructed view. I see this all the time, batch of lazy ass people, who refuse to clean their cars, and figure the wind will take care of it.

Cops ?

This morning I turned left out of my street , drove a block and pulled up to an intersection. In the left lane beside me was a cop Crown Vic, with side and rear windows covered in 6" of snow. well the rear had two swipes off but still covered. The traffic light turned green , he signaled to get in the right lane to turn into Tim Hortons. I flashed my brights to let him in front of me, and into Tims he went. In hindsight I should have followed him into Tims and snapped a pic on my phone for the records.

Hit 13c at one point today, when the sun was kind of out... it was amazing. It's still nice outside.

I keep the house around 17, when I checked the temperature after starting the laundry, I found it at 18.5!

Needless to say I'm still in the positive on my gas bill, the gas companies are going to be sitting on a large surplus this year.

-6 in montreal. They were predicting stable -7 overnight.

They still had the ass-covering freezing rain warning for tonight even tough there isn't much precipitation left on the radar and temperatures are still well below freezing rain territory. We might get to +1 on wednesday.

So it appears Trwanna got its spring weather but Montreal isn't. we are in winter after today's snow fall.

We had snow yesterday in Ottawa and the driveway looks like it has a thin layer of ice on it this morning. Should be an interesting drive to work.

In Mississauga it was + 8.9 at 4:30 this morning

meanwhile Death toll from Europe’s severe cold spell rises to 79

The death toll from the cold rose to 79 on Wednesday and emergency crews worked overtime as temperatures sank to minus 32.5 C in some areas.

Parts of the Black Sea froze near the Romanian coastline and the rare show fell on Croatian islands in the Adriatic Sea. In Bulgaria, 16 towns recorded their lowest temperatures since records started 100 years ago.

In central Serbia, choppers pulled out 12 people, including nine who went to a funeral but then could not get back over icy, snow-choked roads. Two more people froze to death in the snow and two others are missing, bringing that nation's death toll to five.

“The situation is dramatic, the snow is up to five metres high in some areas, you can only see rooftops,” said Dr. Milorad Dramacanin, who participated in the helicopter evacuations.

Now we know where winter went. The UK is getting below freezing temps as well.

It's good that we found it. Now we can tell the UK that they can keep it for this year.

Just this year? How about forever...

I have a sheltered herb garden that is still growing. Who can complain about a 10 month growing season. This has been a fantastic winter and the 14 day forecast show it continuing until at least mid-Feb now.

We're not there yet, and I could be proven wrong still, but someone write the obit for the winter of 2011-12 that never was.

We are getting a Kentucky winter according to the Toronto Star. »www.thestar.com/news/article/112···kentucky

Only 12 days with temps staying below 0. Still 12 too many in my books, but now I'm just getting greedy.

Ferrari cancels launch ceremony
ESPNF1 Staff
February 2, 2012
Heavy snowfall has affected much of Italy and made access to the Ferrari headquarters difficult
Ferrari has cancelled the launch ceremony for its 2012 car due to the weather conditions at Maranello.
The car was due to be launched at the team's headquarters in Northern Italy on Friday morning, with a track run also planned in the afternoon or on Saturday for promotional purposes. However, with heavy snowfall and cold temperatures affecting much of Europe, Ferrari has been forced to cancel the event.

As a result the team has announced that it will still launch the car on Friday via its website, following the likes of Red Bull and Lotus who have also chosen to launch online.

"There was no let up from the snow last night, which continued to fall on Maranello and the surrounding area and the situation does not appear to be changing this morning," Ferrari said on its official website. "The forecast is still bad both in terms of predictions of more snow fall and of a further drop in temperature.

"Therefore, the decision has been taken to cancel the presentation ceremony for the new car, which was to have taken place at 10.30 tomorrow. The decision was taken because of the weather conditions and because of the difficulties that would have faced the 300 or so people due to attend from the team partners, the authorities and representatives of the media in their attempts to get to Maranello."

Temperatres have been above 0 for many days in montreal. There are more and more spots when I can see grass already.

I went to Québec city on thursday without a coat. On the way back by bus, it was raining.

They are still dumping salt on roads so cycling is still off limits but one good rain storm could clean that out. I now feel an urgency to do my yearly bike maintrnance (total disassembly and cleaning) to get read for an early start to the cycling season.

Has winter not arrived and and will come back t bite us in march ?

Or has winter petered out and we're altready in spring ?
