 | [Wi-Fi] Wireless Speed Hi Everyone,
My apologies if I have posted in the wrong place.
I'm on the Comcast Extreme 50 plan with a Zoom 5350 wireless router/modem (it's D 3.0 with wireless N).
When running a speed test wired on my laptop I get 60mb down and about 20 mb up. However on my laptop (wireless G), iPad (wireless N) and PS3 (wireless G I believe), I get only around 23mb down but get 20mb up. I have IP flood detection disabled, QOS disabled and I'm set to channel 8 (no other devices on this channel and farthest away from other channels with multiple devices connected in my building).
So I'm wondering...are those the best speeds I'll ever do wirelessly? Are there any other settings on the router I can tweak to speed up wifi performance (yes I'm positive it is set to N mode). I'd really like my PS3 and Xbox 360 to get the max speeds wirelessly so I don't have to run any CAT cables to them.
Anyone have ideas? Thanks so much for any advice. |

You also want to avoid using a channel that overlaps. May want to read this: »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels |

 | I turned off AES+TKIP and went to channel 6. Still only getting around 20mb down. This is frustrating. |

 | Well I just turned QOS back ON. Now I'm getting about 30mb down. Improvement...but should I still be doing higher speeds on my wireless G/N devices? I've never had a connection speed fast enough for this to matter so I'm pretty new to figuring all this out. All tips are greatly appreciated. |

Perfectly normal for G. 56mbit is the total up + down. Max G throughput in one direction is pretty much what you're getting - something in the low 20s.
For 50mbit in each direction, you need N networking. That's for the router and the clients. -- My place : »www.schettino.us |

 | I've got the N router and the iPad is N too. Maybe I'm just using a crappy speed test app? I'm using the speedtest.net app for iPad to get the 23-25mb down results. Unfortunately it's the only Wireless N device I have. Maybe I should borrow a N laptop from a friend and try to see if it's just the iPad. |

If you have mixed N and G devices on the same N network, it will drop down to G speeds for everyone. Perhaps that's it?
I have an iPad2 on a 5Ghz N network, and its very snappy, easily kicking out 50-70mbit up/down. -- My place : »www.schettino.us |
