 | Which DNS should I use? Hi Everyone, Everything on my network is setup manually. I currently have my primary DNS as 68.87.72.130 and my secondary DNS as 68.87.77.130. I just recently looked at the Comcast website as I have been having dropouts while playing video games where people that ping to me as a host get dropped from the lobby. The new DNS they want me to use is 75.75.75.75 and 75.75.76.76 respectively. Should I switch all my home network to those DNS servers or maintain the ones I am currently on? Thanks for the help. I tried OPENDNS in the past and seemed to have more issues while hosting than with the comcast DNS. Thanks Pete |

That way when you get IPv6 you automatically get the IPv6 addresses of the DNS servers (which are 2001:558:FEED::1 and 2001:558:FEED::2)? -- JL Comcast |

Thanks for expanding on that Jason ! |

 | reply to petes67bird @Jlivinghood and EG-
I have the router setup to automatically assign DNS but I have a static IP on my PC which has a static DHCP lease so my remote server software can WOL the pc from remote locations. Also my PS3 is in DMZ mode and has a static IP, which when you place a static IP on the PS3 you are then required to enter a primary and secondary DNS. Do I have this setup correctly. Sorry I am a noob that tinkers with everything that I probably shouldnt.
So basically on my DHCP lease list, i have a specific IP set aside for my home PC. Then on my windows 7, I went to network connections, properties, than to TCP/IP4 or something like that and set a static IP. Once you do that, it requires a Primary and secondary DNS as well, so I just put the new DNS numbers in there. Thanks for clarifying if you will. Pete |

What is the brand and model of that router? -- Please use the "yellow (IM) envelope" to contact me and please leave the URL intact. |

 | So I am going to bud in, is it best to select 75.75.75.75 ones or just let comcast assign manually?
Also dns changing won't fix your internet problem as you are alraedy connected by ip at that point. |

 | I was using a 68 one before, I flashed openwrt to my router and then it got 75.75.75.75 probably because the router never updated itself after I got it... though that was only 6 months ago, wndr3700. |
