Messo join:2010-01-27 Berkeley, CA | How to find ADSL provider in my area? Been doing Google searches, and looks like Comcast, Verizon, and phone company has Google well paid off, as thats all I getting. How do I find ADSL (no SDSL, VDSL, IDSL, etc.) providers servicing my area, for some comparison shopping? |

Yelp »www.yelp.com gave me the above 2 services. But they may have some geographic limitations. You really have to call and ask about a specific address. |

You can't pay Google (except for an advertisement) to be at the top of search results. It's not that hard to get to page 1 though if you know how to do your site correctly. -- Therapy Chicks |

| reply to Messo Anyone who wants to deliver xDSL needs to rent copper from the ILEC, the incumbent carrier. At least here in NH the market for competitive ISPs has pretty much dried up except for a few survivors in the commercial space.
May want to check out your state Public Utility Commission. Even though DSL is unregulated they may have a list of local providers.

I suspect yours might be PacBell, now ATT, and I'm not sure if they'll provide old-school DSL. I think around here a new customer has to get U-Verse DSL (if available).
As tschmidt mentions, there used to be many, many other providers who in fact simply piggy-backed off of the phone company but most are gone today. |
