 | [Vista] optimize for quick removal wont "stick" vista home premium sp2 32bit
got an interesting problem for some reason when i plug in a usb drive, i can not change it to "optimize for quick removal" the settings are unselectable when going through my computer.
 going through
however going through computer management they are selectable, but they do not "take"
 going through
this tends to be an issue for me because honestly ill just forget to do the "safely remove hardware" thing. which half the time results in a screwd up drive.
so, any one have any idea why this wont take? it doesnt matter if its an actual flash usb key, or an actual hard drive in an external enclosure (like the screen shots). |

DiskDriveGoin' In CirclesPremium join:2004-11-03 Farmington, MI | Silly question, but is the file system on the drive, by any chance, NTFS? If so, that typically prefers to be optimized for performance vs. quick removal. If you want to switch up to quick removal, you may need to change to a FAT32 file system instead, but that has its own limitations. |

 | the hard drive in the enclosure is indeed NTFS, however the USB flash drive (2GB for talking books from the library for the blind) is listed as FAT in "my computer" but is listed as "RAW" in computer management. both have the same problem. |
