Re: New Exede customers, please postNew exede modem and dish installed today. Second one for this installer. Even with no particular training, it went rather well. dish alignment is really neat, uses audio tone at dish to prompt fine location. Modem took quite a while to finish upgrades and step through the self checks. Patience is required. In the end a bad piece of RG6 nearly pulled us under. Support over the phone was very slow. Wish i'd have waited for the first rush to finish. Now, to find out about all this google software and the web acceleration stuff. Don't think any of the Ku stuff on the Wild Blue web page is intended for this Ka system. We will need to get some discussions going on things like the special version of Firefox and the Wild Blue computer tune up package. My dish is branded Wild Blue. The apple time machine hooked right up and took right off. Only thing to do now is use it a while. First though, time to go fishing! Bobbin |

I was trying to differentiate the via sat exede from the earlier WildBlue system. My system is the single coax version SurfBeam 2, RM4100 1-IFL, Ka. When I called the 866-945-3258 it was answered as Via Sat. We were able to initiate a log in and password for temporary access to my account. The tech advised me that the wild blue optimizer was not to be downloaded or installed with my system. He did recommend the Firefox browser, but so far I've had no problems with the 64 bit Safari. In one day of browsing I've used .5 of the 15 Gb data allowance. He recommended speediest.com as a defined measurement tool for satellite internet. I also received an email showing $100.89 payment against my credit card with a link to "view your monthly bill..." that link doesn't seem to work yet. Browsing is prompt and fast (compared to my old WISP). sign me, Still Bobbin |

turns out the Exede modem needs RG-6 with all copper center, my old wire had a steel core. Rumor is that line length needs to be between 50 and 100 feet.

said by DrStrangLov :I wonder if cable could be rolled up if extra length is needed? That's how it was done when WB first introduced the Surfbeam(1) modem. Customers on short runs generated a signal to hot for the gateway front end. But that was a temporary fix, the eventual solution being a global software fix at the gateways. Sorta humorous to see them re-invent the wheel with Surfbeam 2. //greg// |

Maybe next week I'll find out if my cable needs to be lengthen or not; but, I will not be located in central beam area. |

I was addressing the curious similarity to the Gen1 Surfbeam rollout, and wondering why they are seemingly reinventing the wheel with Gen2 //greg// |

I was just bringing out a fine point, nothing more! quote: wondering why they are seemingly reinventing the wheel with Gen2
I am clueless about physical dynamics of TRIA's uplink side...but I would suspect operating characteristics of Ka-band uplinking is the issue at hand....as in its physics determines circuit design. |

An astounding (and refreshing) admission. The issue was never with the uplink. It was with the software at the gateway. Same then, almost certainly the same now. //greg// |

Tidbit - I hope they improved Tx side, cause being on the fringe requires more Tx RF Power: dBm. I went thru two WB Trias. |

I would like to think the fine points of Tx/Rx have been integrated into this equipment via knowledge learned from ViaSat's military equipment. |
