 | [XPPro] Installing XPPro SP2 x86 with X58 chipset I was wondering if it is possible to install XP 32 bit on a LGA 1366 system with an X58 chip set and 12GB of RAM. I do understand I would only get about 3GB of ram on an 32 bit system but I only want to do this for running 'legacy' programs that don't run well in a virtual pc program. Would I have to download the 'inf' file for an 'F6' install method so setup can recognize the 'storage controller'? Also how can I load that 'inf' file in to setup without a floppy drive? |

 | If you put the SATA controller in Compatibility mode rather than AHCI mode from BIOS, XP setup will recognize it without the need for loading an auxilliary driver. -- Scott Brown Consulting |

 | Would I be able to put the SATA controller back in AHCI mode after I install all of the drivers in XP? |

|
 | I tried going back to AHCI mode but it gave me the BSOD. |
|
 | There is a workaround for that if you google for it but there is no real advantage going back to AHCI mode given the circumstances of your setup anyway. -- Scott Brown Consulting |

 | Will Windows 7 x64 run just as quick in IDE mode as in AHCI mode? |
|
 | Windows 7 installer should package the needed SATA controller drivers out of the box (unlike XP) so that you can install with it in AHCI mode and leave it that way. -- Scott Brown Consulting |

 | Even if I have the WD Caviar Black 1TB drive with an SATA 2.0 controller? |
|
 | A single mechanical drive is not really capable of exceeding ATA-133 transfer rates. But you would still prefer to be in AHCI mode if you can. -- Scott Brown Consulting |
|
 | I installed the AHCI drivers by 'updating' the primary ide channel driver to the ICH10R driver from Intel. I then the 'Standard IDE Dual Channel' became a problem device so I deleted it. The system is running XP great in AHCI mode but I can't figure out that this 'PCI Device' is in Other devices. It most be a motherboard thing? I did install the chipset drivers again but that didn't seem to do anything. |

| Open the properties for it, go to the Details tab and find the Hardware ID. Either post it or search for it in Google, something should come up. It looks something like this: PCI\VEN_####&DEV_####&SUBSYS_####
Search by plugging VEN_####&DEV_#### into Google. -- Moe, I need your advice

| It's the other SATA controller, JMicron. Unless you need more ports, just stick with Intel's and you should also be able to disable the JMicron controller in the BIOS and prevent it from showing in Device Manager. -- Moe, I need your advice

 | Do you think there is a driver around for it? |
