[Mods] T Mobiles Samsung Galaxy SII roms?

Anyone here running this phone with CyanogenMod 9 rom? This seems to be the best Android phone on T Mobile at this time and wondering how good the rom is running so far?

Also is there any programs out there that will root+unlock it with 1 click like for the Galaxy Nexus? Or any good tutorial videos on Youtube?

Also does this phone come with WIFI Calling and does CyanogenMod 9 have it yet for T Mobile?

Hm it seems CyanogenMod doesn't support T Mobile USA version of the Galaxy S2

Re: [Mods] T Mobiles Samsung Galaxy S2--CyanogenMod 9?

There is no cm9 for the t989. There are some dev's that made builds from the CM7 source but it is buggy. If your running the latest ota (2.3.6) one click root will not work anymore. Wifi calling was included in the last ota again (2.3.6) with new modem. I love the phone, there are still plenty of good roms and as of late more and more good dev's have come over so that is good news. It's still super easy to root, install cwm, flash a .zip done.

Not sure why the guy in the video removes the battery in that root tutorial but thats how to get root.

As far as roms head on over to xda and check them out. I've been running android zombie with faux kernel undervolted -60mv with ondemand governors oc'd to 1.72ghz and still get amazing battery life. I flashed the ics theme in the themeing section of the t989 and its beautiful. But I'm always playing around with themes and such. There has been like 5 new roms in the past few weeks and more to come and another great dev from the mt4g just got this phone. I'm going to try dewizzed soon as it takes all the touchwiz out and I like adw launcher personally.

Is CyanogenMod 7 available for this device? Really just want pure Android experience.

Also, is wifi calling included in cyan or your rom of choice?

Thanks for the replies.

There are two CM7 builds for this device, I have tried neither. Wifi calling is included in any rom based off 2.3.6 with the newest KL1 modem and you must have a new(er) sim card. Not sure on the sim card thing, I got a new one when I bought the phone so I never had issues. I guess if your using an old one it would give you can error when enabling. Make sure you setup your 911 address via t-mobile website or via the t-mobile my account app before using wifi calling or it won't work. I'm sure your phone will ship with the latest ota so you will have wifi calling out of the box.

Personally, I think the HTC Amaze 4G is better.

Perhaps the camera, otherwise no.

It's all a matter of opinion. HTC has better build quality and the screen doesn't have that colder blue tint to it. So yes.

My daughter absolutely wouldn't take the Galaxy S2. I tried a few times since it was less expensive, but she wouldn't go for it. In the end, I couldn't disagree with her, since I didn't like the GS2 either.

That's fine but how does that fit into my thread here? They both have the same CPU and GPU so it came down to screen size and weight for me, and the Galaxy S2 was the better choice (for me)

HTC Amaze 4G looked like it had better build quality but with more weight.

The Amaze however did have a little bit better of a resolution than the S2 but the Super Amoled Plus should do it for me till T Mobile gets a better phone like the Galaxy Nexus or something similar in spec.

I was up forever last night trying to decide between the Amaze 4G and the S2 and it came down to the S2.

I also didn't care for the design around the screen on the Amaze 4G and preferred the look of the S2.

I do find it odd though that the Amaze is less expensive than the S2 given what I said about the spec.

Q: How long does T Mobile usually take to ship things out on their free shipping option, and who do they use for that? Will I get a tracking number?

It fits in the sens that I assume you hadn't purchased the Galaxy yet and you were looking for a ROM moddable phone. THat being said, there's not much out there for the Amaze.

Initially, the Amaze was more expensive than the S2 ($220 v $200), but over the months one or the other of the phones are discounted so that the pricing switches around. We bought my daughter's phone at a time when the Amaze was about $50 more than the Samsung.

T-Mobile is fast to ship and you get a UPS tracking number. We usually get the phone in 2-3 days using the standard shipping option. But I haven't bought a phone directly from them in almost 2 years, so YMMV.

Thanks for the insight, would you happen to know if they ship from the same area for online orders? Where was yours shipped from?

Not having a cell phone sucks.

I don't recall the shipping details anymore, sorry. The only thing I recall was thinking how fast I'd gotten the item. I looked through my emails and the last time I ordered directly from T-M was end of Feb. 2010.

I suspect it's because the amaze is nearing eol.

Damn. That was a fast EOL. I'd imagine the G2S will be next in a few months, since Samsung has announced the next flagship phone.

They'll probably wait either right before the iPhone 5 hits the market or soon after..they have put to much money into marketing the current S2 with the "Next big thing" ads.

Like so

Yeah, I love those ads. The Superbowl ad (at least one of them) will be of the Galaxy Note. That's a cool device.

The GS3 was rumored to have been introduced this month at the MWC, but they pushed it back. It likely won't be announced until mid 2012. So there's still some life there for the GS2 as being the Samsung hero phone.
