1 edit | cables shorted plugged into sagemcom1704 in bridge mode Why is it when the modem is in bridge mode I get a shorted connection error when I run broadcom cable test diagnostics?
-it says pair 1-2 are good but 3-4 g.gw.b.bw are shorted?
-I have a screen shot attached hopefully
-at least 2 of the 4 ports gives this message
-the same cable plugged into a different router do not show they are shorted. |

 | is it possible youre accidentally using a crossover cable? some routers auto correct for them and wouldnt show an error? |
|
 | im am not using a crossover cable.
it does this on any patch cable i use |

| Typical 10/100 Ethernet equipment short the pairs this way. Pair 1 is wired to pins 1&2 of the RJ-45, and Pair 2 is wired to pins 3&6. Pair 3 is shorted together on pins 4&5 and Pair 4 is shorted on pins 7&8. Pairs 1 & 2 go to transformers that feed Tx & Rx to the Ethernet PHY, and the others pairs are terminated into a "Bob Smith" termination, as are the center taps of the transformers for pairs 1 & 2.
When you go to gigabit connections, all four pairs are used for data, but a 10/100/1000 PHY will understand that it's connected to a 10/100 PHY if the pairs are shorted. I hope that all made sense. |
