OK - which diamond is bigger?

I know it might be hard to tell; at least to me it is. Asking your guys' expertise here. I tried to take a decent ratio photo. Not going to say which is which, just asking opinions.

Looks to me like the one on the left is. Although it's a closer shot, so it's hard to say.

DOH after looking at the bigger pic. I can see that it's not the same ring but I still think they are the same size.

That's pretty neat. They do look very close in size. My fiancée rolled her eyes and laughed last night because I was pre-jealous. The ring I got her is on the left, my friend Lynn on the right.

Size isn't the only thing that matters. Unless you're really superficial in which case you should just get a man-made stone.

I'm well aware of that. After doing all my homework I found out that clarity makes a huge price difference. The one I picked was an "eye naked" SI2, and F in color.

It's really difficult to tell, since the two stones are different cuts. But, as you note, size isn't the only factor. See
»www.hwgem.com/diascale.htm

A side story, a family rumor for years had been that my spouse's Grandpa had bought Grandma a Zircon engagement ring and told her it was a diamond.

When their estate was settled, the appraiser had said "yes, it's a CZ stone". My wife always liked the ring. So when the public auction was held, she bid on it and got it for a few dollars.

She always thought it was strange that Grandpa, who was a very ethical guy, would lie about it, so we took it to a GIA certified appraiser to confirm whether it was a diamond and, if necessary, evaluate it for insurance purposes.

Well, it turns out it was a real unrecut rose cut diamond (see »www.thediamondcuts.com/index.html ). The new appraiser told us the previous appraiser had not done full testing, and probably assumed it was fake because it was so perfect.

Grandpa was vindicated...

Nice diamond choice, furlonium. My mom had a round diamond in her engagement ring and as a kid I was always fascinated by the amount of sparkle it had. It seemed it had more so than the different shapes of diamonds I saw as I got older.

What are the specs of each diamond. Can't really compare top surface area between round and princess cut. They are two different cuts and have pros and cons. What does she want?

She wanted one like the one on the left - and that's what I got her. That's her hand lol.

I'm not sure of the diamond specs of the princess cut stone. My fiancée's is 1.01ct, F color, SI2 clarity. I don't have the table, crown, etc specs on me atm.

The size of a Diamond can have a high carrot count but appear smaller because the cut of the diamond is deeper rather than shallow and with a greater circumference.

Carrots are rated on the amount of water a stone displaces rather than size appearance.

Then you have Clarity rate by the amount of visualization compared to water. The amount of transparency when placed in water gives a stone a value from 1 to 10 where ONE is the highest rating meaning the Diamond is almost invisible in the water and TEN being the lowest value stone. Then you have occlusions and imperfections

Deeper stone are internally brighter and have the appearance of a bright glowing or sparkling center.

Shallow wider stones look over all bright and rarely have a star like center.

Diamonds are so dense that they actually slow the speed of light passing thought it and the facets act like a laser's mirror and bounce the light around and with the slowing effect cause the stones to glow or look bright.
