[IL] Latest Mediacom Offer for Ex-Customers

I was a Mediacom internet/TV customer for a couple years in the 2004-2006 time frame. I was very unsatisfied and left for Satellite TV and DSL. Since then I get monthly mailings of Mediacom offers. The latest offer I got yesterday is interesting and the first time I have seen something like this from Mediacom.

It offers 15 mbs Internet, Digital TV and telephone service for $119.99 a month. It has a 90 day money back guarantee and a 5 Year lock on prices and NO Contract.. It does not say what you get with the tv service and if there are extra charges for equipment. I am not sure if this is a great price or not since it is very difficult to find Mediacoms prices online for my particular area. I am wondering if this deal has been offered before and what does it include for TV Service? I also wonder about hidden fees? All it says about the TV service is it is Digital and "boundary free". It also says to ask about "Free DVR Service". It offers free night/weekend installation.

FWIW, I am really not interested this deal as I would NEVER rely on Mediacom for telephone service. If I could get a deal similar without telephone service I *might* consider it. The advertisement says you must take all 3 services.

Of course what attracts me is the idea of no contract and a price lock for 5 years.

It sounds pretty good, but it all depends on the details. 15 Meg is just the bump they give you for having all three services.

Do they mention "Family Cable", "Digital Plus", or mention anything about the number of receivers? "Whole House DVR" should be at least two receivers. If you don't need the phone, you don't have to actually use it. You could just hook it to an all-in-one printer and have a dedicated fax number.

It is very vague about TV service which leads me to believe that $119.99 a month is not going to be the true cost. All it says about TV is Digital cable and boundary free tv and "call today and ask about how to get Free DVR Service.. Somehow I get the feeling that having DVR's is not going to be free at $119.99 a month. I really hate ads that do not give true costs without calling and listening to a sales pitch. Note that this is a mailing that says "Mediacom now makes it simple to come back". I could find this offer nowhere on the net.

The problem with getting the phone service is I would be paying for something that I would never use.

So why don't you just ignore the ads, since you have made it abundtantly clear, in many postings, that you absolutely detest Mediacom?

This is true. At least I do not post ANON.

I have also made it abundantly clear I want/need faster internet. Mediacom unfortunately is the only other ISP where I live other than the DSL I already have. I believe in second chances even tho judging from the Mediacom complaining here they might not deserve a second chance. I keep hoping that maybe Mediacom will/has changed for the better since I had them 6 years ago.

At the right offer I will try them again. Certainly not for telephone service but for Internet and at the right price - TV Service.

No contract is very interesting for me since Mediacom would have to earn my business EVERY month or I would simply change back to what I now have. In other words Mediacom offerings would have to work as advertised. What a concept.

If you are a Mediacom Employee and my posts offend you, feel free to put me on ignore.

if you do choose to go with mediacom, i highly suggest you keep that ad around in a ziplock or some thing, that way in a year they cant come back and say "we never had such an offer...." etc.

Nope, not an employee. And a posting that isn't anonymous means nothing more than any other.

I usually do ignore your near continuous bitching about Mediacom but on occasion it seems appropriate to echo it back to you.

I really can not understand why you hang out on the Mediacom Forum? You must ignore everyone. It is not just me bitching, it is just about everyone continuously bitching about Mediacom. Everyone that is stuck with Mediacom and has no other choices.

Mediacom is the worst of the worst. They DESERVE bitching. Not my opinion, read Consumer Reports magazine of their report on Cable, telephone and internet companies last year.

Most promotions come with 1 SD DCT with Starz plus basic cable. If you want a HD DCT they will have to approve it first but it does not cost extra.

DVR service is free for the first year AFAIK. Regular price is $12.95/mo for the first DVR with each additional costing $6 per DCT (on top of the equipment fee).

Each additional DCT (SD or HD) costs $10.50.

Also unless you own your (internet only) modem you will need to pay $5/mo modem rental fee.

Thanks for the info. Mediacom needs to put information like this into their advertisements, instead of trying to hide all the hidden fees.

I love it when someone comes along, and perhaps because of a change in employment status or personal relationships, finds themselves with more time on their hands. They decide it is their destiny to become "Defender of the World" against the evil all around us.

I often wonder what they did before the internet to fill their days.

That offer has been around for sometime. The problem is the TV service is severely limited compared to Directv/Dish and the telephone service is worthless because of outages and the requirement to have a backup phone service.

That leaves the internet service which certainly is not worth $90 a month. I believe Mediacom needs to concentrate on the internet service and provide promos for that service without requiring tv and telephone service bundled.

Anyone who has had Directv/Dish will never be happy with Mediacom TV service. Since you need a backup for the telephone service anyway why bother at all with it?

IMO the only service Mediacom has worth buying is Internet.

You see Mediacom is getting rid of analog channels so it can improve cable TV service and add more HD channels. Some of this bandwidth will probably be used to improve internet service too.

No, because if you have a digital TV ready you won't need a DTA. Also DTAs will be free for this year and after that they are $0.99/mo. AFAIK Mediacom paid $45 for each DTA so it would take 45 months just to break even.

They are doing this so they can better utilize the available bandwidth.
