 | Alternate Cable ISP Options in Oakville Cogeco Territory? I see that Acanac is telling me I can get their unlimited 24Mbps cable in Oakville. Postal code L6H.
But then I understood late last year that there weren't any other options in Cogeco area. So, is this true now? Anyone in Oakville/Burlington switch over to an alternate cable ISP? |
|
 | Just checked their site and it says I'm good in central Oakville... I may have just wet myself, but I'll have to make a phone call to be sure. -- Bah! |

| reply to Topiatic Yes please call to make sure before you go ahead with the application. It seems to me it was not available there but I could be wrong. Tell the rep to ask someone in the cable department. Glenna would be the best one for the rep to page and ask.

1-866-281-3538 Ext. 1 I kinda figured it might be you typing, but I'm not aware of any TPIA providers , otherwise there would be a mass exodus from Cogeco to them. -- No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake....... |
|
 | reply to Lynn I emailed and gave my postal code and someone with the email "colinb" emailed back to say that yes it's available.
But it does sound like this would be a huge deal.
Come to think of it, it must be fake. Because why would the deal in Cogeco territory match the deal in Rogers territory? |

If Distrbutel was doing TPIA in Cogecoland, you would hear about it. -- No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. | Appreciate the response Lynn.
And just to end this off for now, can someone explain why an alternate cable ISP is not available in Cogeco land? I'm sure Rogers was against it, so how come not Cogeco? And when might that change? ty |

And when might that change? ty I think Cogeco was requiring wholesale providers to string their own fibre to their POIs, while Rogers allowed dark fibre (routing over Rogers Fibre). So Cogeco's way is really expensive. |

 | reply to Lynn Thanks for the post, I hate being on hold. Now back to shopping out an OTA/FTA setup. -- Bah! |

grunze510 join:2009-02-14 Cote Saint-Luc, QC kudos:1 | I think I might have mixed up the terminology. Dark Fibre is rolling out your own fibre.
So what I got from the thread is that a wholesale provider would need to string their own fibre from 151 Front (or wherever is best for them) to a place called Syscon in Burlington ON. I don't know if it's still the same with their latest tariff, but I know that with the new stuff, Cogeco wants something around $28000/GBit/s. So a wholesale ISP's pricing would probably be slightly lower than Cogeco's, but with a somewhat higher cap. |
|
 | reply to elwoodblues A lot of language in that thread I can't understand. But from what I gather, either the process is underway, or should have happened by now, or it will never be economically feasible. |

| reply to grunze510 it's syscon road in burlington, near the oakville border right off the highway... property behind palletta international.
It looks like a sure bet that no one would ever consider tpia'ing their territory... could the CRTC not see the excessive pricing?

Jeez folks, stop being sheeple! There should be lots of dark fibre along the railway tracks that one could light up.
The real test will come when Rogers finally gets their act to get and creates the single POI for Ontario. -- No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire.
