2 edits | Comcast- 1,100 Feet of cable for 3 Houses ??? I am on a one man mission to get comcast installed at my current residence , comcast would have to run about 1,100 Feet for three homes. i know for sure me and my neighbor would sign up (the first two homes). I have already gotten a quote from comcast of 7,500 dollars which i thought was quite ridiculous. Maybe i am wrong, but i mean whats the big deal ? I have attached a simple image that indicates the most plausable route of the cable to be laid. The red line indicates the new cable that needs to be laid, the black is just me trying to cover the street names so the world doesnt know where i live. |

 | It's not just a simple cable run. Depending on the location or nodes/amps they would also need to be added to that run. -- »www.TheExoticFish.com »www.ImTan.info |

 | reply to ItzComcastic $7/ft is about right.
Can you dig a ditch? Sometimes if you provide a ditch, they will provide the cable at no charge. I did that with Adelphia back in the day. Mine was a 400' drop. Since they didn't have to pay for a contractor, they just sent one of their techs out to lay the cable (.5" hardline, I think, in my case) to put the cable in the ditch. My quote was for about $2400. I spent $150 to rent the ditch witch. If I had to do an 1100' ditch, I'd rent one of the bigger machines. -- Hail To The Redskins |

 | reply to ItzComcastic Honestly, i think they should do it for free, maybe a few hundred max. Considering there are 3 houses down my road i dont really see the problem- 1,100 feet for three houses doesnt really seem crazy. Yes, i could probably dig my own ditch as i know a few people around that have tractors. The problem is i have no one to talk to at comcast about this that actually knows my particular situation. |

 | You don't seem to realize what's involved. |

 | I know there is more required than just dropping a cable into the ground. I understand that stuff like this isnt cheap. All im asking is for comcast to swallow more of the cost and i will be a customer for life. |

Since you believe your neighbor will sign up when available, will that neighbor kick in for half the cost? Or get the third neighbor on board as well for a third? -- one should not increase, beyond what is necessary, the number of entities required to explain anything |

and you have no idea if they can follow that route or exactly what the ROW requirements and costs are. (you just don't like the quote, which is likely only half the real cost or less.)
The next step in your 1 man mission is up to you (and the neighbors, if the still want it) come up with your share of the money. ComCast isn't denying you coverage, they just won't eat the full cost. |

 | reply to THZNDUP The 7,500 was the total. That quote was for my house only i did not tell the guy that the my first neighbor would also be wanting service, as for the other neighbor - he is an older guy and when confronted about trying to get comcast his response was he didn't want to change his provider from hughesnet ( why he has that is beyond me as DSL is available) Also, i have only talked to him once about it and that was a few months ago, i may give him a ring to see if i can persuade him to change his mind. But, as previously stated i have no one to talk to at comcast that knows the layout of the current situation and that i can (hopefully) negotiate with. |

 | reply to ItzComcastic Something else to keep in mind:
Comcast usually follows the power lines into your neighborhood. So depending where that run is located, would likely dictate the path followed to your house. |

 | reply to ItzComcastic Move or get a damn dish if you cannot pony up $7500. -- Cut your losses short and let your winners run. |

If so, the capability to service the first two houses would (should) be provided for and only require a drop install for them as opposed to the plant construction you are paying for.
Someone gave you a quote for $7500. Wouldn't that be the first place to start?
Another point is the other seven houses and I assume a few more vacant lots to consider. Looks like about a third of the distance to get to you would also be the jumping off point to get to them as well. -- one should not increase, beyond what is necessary, the number of entities required to explain anything |

 | reply to 05381257 I have dishnetwork for tv already. I need comcast for internt as my dsl connection is shotty at best. |
|
 | reply to ItzComcastic Another thing to consider... It looks like the homes are a good distance off the road you want covered. -- »www.TheExoticFish.com »www.ImTan.info |

 | Yeah, a little bit; but that isnt a big deal because i could just install a little box at the end of my driveway to put the cable modem inside of and just wifi it to my home ( my neighbor could do the same) |
|
 | Either way, for 3 homes max Comcast isn't going to foot the bill. -- »www.TheExoticFish.com »www.ImTan.info |

4 edits | reply to THZNDUP This is the way our eletricty cables run, None of these people can get comcast. if they ran wires on the same poles as the electric they could reach about 13 people. |

KommiePremium join:2003-05-13 united state kudos:2 | reply to ItzComcastic Its not going to happen. You have to pony up the 7500 if you want Comcast. 7bucks/ft is reasonable. Just think if your home is cable ready it might justify the 7500 if you ever plan to sell. |
