| Getting more gigs for the basic/lite tier? Since TSI removed the unlimited usage from the lite tier and replaced it with a bell-style 25GB I've reached an impass.
I used just shy of 90GB last month leaving 65GB of overage. If that was february, the overage would've been $16.25 + HST. That's on top of the $45 it costs for dry-loop 512k service.
Can there not be some sort of way to purchase unlimited usage or a 150GB cap for the basic/lite tier?
25GB is seriously not enough and I'd like to have a bill that's the same amount every month, not a variable amount depending on usage, just like everyone else...
Some of us don't pick the worst tier, it's either that or xplornet |

 | are you on BAND G Dryloop? $25.10/month? Wow thats expensive then ....
For that price you might as well have a homephone with primus for 19.95, lol ....
Your paying 24.99 as of Feb 2 for 25GB .... your only other option is to pay $10 more and get 6/800 with 300GB cap. Then they will sync your line at whatever its capable of achieving. 1,2,3,4,5 meg.
You don't seem to have any other options around it.
Because additional bandwith is .25 cents per GB of overage, the only thing I think Tek still offers is you can buy bulk. 100GB for $10 but that defeats the purpose.
For that $10 you might as well upgrade to the higher tier, you would spend the same amount of money and get faster speeds. -- Larry, Larry Laugher .. hehe |

| I seriously don't get why they saddled the Lite tier with a 25GB cap. that's just so, ugh... Bell like, exactly like you said it.
People on those tiers aren't massive leeches, simply due to the speed... -- GO LEAFS GO! |

 | yea thats true. I'm sure they could have balanced it out at 50~100GB ....
does the unlimited still apply from 2-8am on this tier? -- Larry, Larry Laugher .. hehe |

does the unlimited still apply from 2-8am on this tier? NO UNLIMITED OFF-PEAK on this plan.
We might congest the system at 2M/800K! |

 | reply to oxymoron69 Dude, if no unlimited wow, a total sham.
Up the gigs to 50 at least. -- Larry, Larry Laugher .. hehe |

 | reply to oxymoron69 I am on same boat and I guess my only option is to go with 6/800 with 300gig package |

| reply to heyyahblah The best the lines can do here is 2mbit, the modems are even wired straight to the demarc.
I've got a 2nd line from Bell, a 7mbit performance tiered one, that gets topped out at 2mbit sync. It's just too far to the CO in Plainfield. But at least they only charge $24.95 for that dryloop because I can't get max speeds. I think it too comes with 25gb, but at least you can buy usage in blocks.
I ordered a 5mbit line from TSI previously but they wouldn't process the order since the line was only pre-qualified for 512k service. It would be an easy solution if they could just sell me 6mbit, but not process any work orders with bell, just change my cap and line item on the bill. |

 | Ya man, talk with Teksavvy Direct tech support in the forums here or call in and ask them to put you on the 6/800 package even if your lines only sync at 2MB, this way you won't have to worry about overages ever. -- Larry, Larry Laugher .. hehe |

 | reply to jasmo34 said by jasmo34:We might congest the system at 2M/800K! With TSI averaging somewhere in the neighborhood of 2000 subscribers per 1G AHSSPI, anything over 500kbps can potentially contribute to congestion... and since it takes you three times as long to download a 1GB file as someone on 6M, you are three times as likely to be downloading when instantaneous peaks occur, though you only contribute one third as much as someone downloading at 6M who happens to hit the peak.
It isn't the speed people are downloading at that makes congestion, it is the coincidence of people downloading at the same time, whatever individual speeds may be. |

I don't see why they're not offering off-peak unlimited the most someone with 2Mbps can do in a 6 hour window in a 30 day month is 134.47GB this is taking in account for the 15% overhead. |

And the thousands of users at higher speeds (6/12/16/25) aren't already causing this?
I know... If the 2M users can cause so much trouble, maybe the 2M plan should have it's own small off-peak period of 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.! Spread all the usage around the clock.
It will be interesting to see the charts and usage meters when all the 300GB DSL plan users start up their torrents and other large scheduled downloads at 2 a.m.! Especially the first couple weeks. Thousands of students out for a beer, go home and load up their PeeCee's at midnight, for the 2 a.m. downloading onslaught! Oh the humanity! |

NO UNLIMITED OFF-PEAK on this plan. We might congest the system at 2M/800K! Well, it looks like the 2M/800K/25GB plan may well get the off-peak unlimited hours after all. The Feb. 2 price lists say all DSL plans get this off-peak perk, whereas before they said 300GB plans only.
But I wouldn't count on it until we get that confirmed. This new plan has been a confusing mess right from the start. |

 | reply to oxymoron69 Everyone is probably going to have to wait a week or two while they get organized.
25GB is only enough for a very small subset of users. I do hope they offer some off-peak bandwidth with these plans. |

 | I see that the off-peak is there, hopefully it's legit and not sloppy page design. |

1 edit | I received a response to my post in the TSI Direct Forum about the 2M plan and the off-peak unmetered time...
"Hello, I can confirm that the off peak usage meter applies for all DSL customers, not just the 300gb plans. From what I understand the $1.50 network access fee only applies to new customers.
Regards, TSI Jeremy" ... 2012-02-02 ... 18:34:46 So, I believe the "High Speed DSL 2" plan got the only "improvement" today! |
