 | CLID (Caller-ID) question - Northern VA I've been frustrated by the CLID feature - it keeps disappearing from my setup. Had FiOS TV since 8/06, and delighted w/the feature when it became available; but often just disappears. Unplug, wait re-start the DVR (you know the drill). Anyone know how to make this feature STAY on?? Thx |

| VZ engineers should be ashamed to have released this calling feature. It is poorly implemented and unreliable. It is unheard of, to have released a calling feature where customers have to constantly fiddle with the setup to keep it working. I've reported this problem on the VZ direct forum here at DSLR numerous times. After they fixed it, again, the last time, they reported that they are aware of the problem and that they are working on it. Having worked for VZ for 31 years, I can assure you that, when it comes to VZ engineering, "working on it" can take a very long time. |

 | reply to lijacobs Thanks- I thought it might be something VZ needed to fix. I've also been in telecom 25 years; and agree - a fix being looked at could mean someday, or never. It's a minor inconvenience, but nice to have when it works. Oh well, maybe on the next release, ha ha ha |

The power button turns off the video output, but as long as the stb is plugged in it is always 'on', has to be to receive guide updates, and if a a dvr so it can record scheduled programs, etc. I agree with Georg this is a terriblly failed feature, Verizon engineers should be ashamed. |

I went into settings and disabled CID..it was enabled, then turned off the box, unpluged it even then back in and let it reboot. Went back into settings and re-enabled CID and have not had a problem since. This topic has been discussed in other areas of the boards, that seems to be the fix thats works... YMMV. good luck! |

The stb loses communication with the server and when notifications (caller id pop up on stb) are sent it doesn't 'listen'. Toggling the alert display will sometimes re establish the alerts. But if there has been any changes made to the stb or wan settings, most of which are beyond your control, Verizon has to redo the port mapping so the info on server matches what's in your house. |

 | To me, it seems the feature has become a bit more reliable over the past few months.
A while back, I noticed that the port forwards on the router now get created automatically after resetting the router to defaults. I never noticed that happening in the past. Of course, I have no idea what's actually happening on the back end, but it appears there's some kind of mapping going on with the ONT and the STB's that exist on your account, and a "Remote Administration" connection then creates the proper port forwards for the STB's on the account. It also seems to update the mapping in the backend systems to the correct WAN IP address.
This process seems to help, but isn't perfect. If the LAN IP's of the STB's have changed, the port mappings are still wrong, but for me, anyway, disabling and re-enabling CID on the STB's seems to initiate another "Remote Administration" connection from VZ that updates the STB-to-IP-Address mapping on the port forwards, almost instantaneously. It's interesting that on a Westell router, you can actually see the STB-to-IP mappings change because the Westell uses the STB ID as part of the port forwarding name. |

 | reply to joe01880 Thanks, Joe01880 - your process is precisely what I had done, and after all that - NO GO. Bummer! Again- thanks all, for your suggestions, feedback, and comments. Personally, it's not that terribly important to me - but it's a shame an advertised (and SOMETIMES working) feature isn't consistent, or reliable.
Regards, FuriousGeorg (gee, I wonder why I ever came up w/that 'handle'?) Seriously, I really like FiOS and have been a subscriber since 1/06 I ask for the moderator to delete this thread - it has served its usefulness. |
