| [optical] PowerDVD 9 Blu-ray black blank screen with Sound Blank Blu-ray screen movie menu | Blank Blu-ray screen while movie playing |
I used the: 1) LG Blu-ray WH12LS30 2) HIS 6870 Fan Turbo 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E HDMI/2xDVI/2xMini DP 3) LG 22" LED LCD EW224T
When I try to play Blu-ray-Discs with Cyberlink PowerDVD 9 under Win7 x64 Home Premium edition I get the following problem: -Sound plays -Menus are not visible -VIDEO IS INVISIBLE, just a black screen
Basically when I play Blu-ray the screen is blank with just the audio playing.
*note* DVDs play just fine with flying colors. |

1 edit | First thing I would do is to double check to make sure there isn't a firmware update for your drive.
Second thing I would do is download VLC and see if it works using it. FYI, I use VLC exclusively due to running into to some problems with other players in the past. It's free and very reliable if you have never used it before.

I wouldn't think it would even be working at all if this were the case, but you may want to double check that the SATA cables are firmly seated also. |

1 edit | VLC doesn't play Blu-ray movies as it states on there site. All VLC is good for is DVD.
Look as I've said PowerDVD 9 plays DVDs just fine with flying colors. It's just having a problem with the Blu-ray movies. It's never done this before until now. |

| Dogg the LG 22" LED LCD EW224T doesn't have HDMI but DVI-D (digital only, both single-link and dual-link). I am using a 12 footer dual link DVI video cord.
*note* It was stupid of LG to incorporate a VGA port on the monitor when I'll never use it. Not even my current desktop build has a VGA port anywhere on it. |

4 edits | reply to floydb1982 Have you tried a different driver?
Eg. I had similar problems with the current nVidia WHQL (v.285.62 as of this post) - blank screens during playback as you describe (mine was in Windows Live Movie Maker). The newer beta version fixed the problem.
Otherwise, a missing/corrupt codec could be the cause as well.
Another thought is copyright protection (HDCP Status on nVidia - don't know about AMD/ATI). »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-bandw···otection |

2 edits | Mister_E HIS I have the 6870 Fan Turbo 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E HDMI/2xDVI/2xMini DP »www.hisdigital.com/un/product2-575.shtml
I have the latest AMD graphics and LED LCD monitor drivers installed and up-to-date.
You say I could have a missing/corrupt codec??? Do you know how I can check for that in PowerDVD 9??? |

 | reply to Dissembled Do you mean a firmware update for my LG Blu-ray WH12LS30??? If so then How do I check for this sort of firmware update??? |

 | reply to floydb1982 How are you connecting the video card to the LCD? HDMI, DVI, etc?
From what I've (quickly) found is your card supports HDCP only on DVI (I could be wrong). I haven't found anything on your LCD yet. |
|
 | Mister_E I'm connecting my LED LCD monitor vs the dual link DVI to the video card. |

1 edit | reply to Mister_E Mister_E As a last ditch effort I unplugged the Dual Link DVI-D cord from the DVI-D (Dual Link) port and plugged it into the DVI-I (Dual Link) port.
Well what do you know it fixed my Blu-ray problem.
Now I can play Blu-rays movies. I can see the Blu-ray movie and menu clear as a bell. It's playing with flying colors.
Come to think of it I'm not sure as to why only the DVI-I (Dual Link) port works with Blu-ray and the DVI-D (Dual Link) port doesn't work with Blu-ray.
Both for example can display in digital. So you think both would work and not just the other.
Maybe the DVI-D (Dual Link) port doesn't support HDCP and the DVI-I (Dual Link) does support HDCP. |

 | Dissembled I downloaded the latest VLC version and it couldn't play any of my Blu-ray. It did how ever play my DVDs. I don't see how you can think I'm wrong when I am unable to play Blu-rays in VLC. |

| reply to floydb1982 The VLC main page lists "Blu-Ray" support, and yet the list of supported media does not: »www.videolan.org/vlc/features.php?cat=input

| reply to floydb1982 floydb1982,
Glad to hear you got it working - although I was starting to have my doubts that it could be HDCP. (It was getting late here and my mind was thinking of sleep.. ) I was reading that HDCP protection initially lowered the resolution/quality and not necessarily blanked the whole display although it may have changed recently.
My other thought was - was it working before?
Have you tried switching back to the other port to test again?
From what I've read on AMD's 6870 spec page, it simply states "Dual-link DVI with HDCP" - no mention of -I or -D specifically (difference between the two is that -I also carries an analog signal while -D is strictly digital only - of course, you need the corresponding cable as well). You should check to see if your LCD is reporting an analog or digital connection. |
