Gorz join:2008-11-23 Lachine, QC | Why Videotron does not offer higher cap/lower price New pricing of cable internet from smaller ISP in Quebec that are using Videotron infrastructure is very attractive.
Ex:
Electronic Box Speed 30, cap 250 G, $49 »www.electronicbox.net/download/E···2012.pdf
Distributel Speed 15, Cap unlimited, $59 »www.distributel.ca/en/product.as···ernet_15
Teksavvy to announce soon
And all, no long term contract, no bundle, no engagement.
Why Videotron does not provide similair service. |

 | reply to Gorz Acanac will offer 8-meg and 30-meg internet *unlimited* Source: » Re: Velcom, Acanac, price change, when ?
Personally I would wait a bit to see how fast their links get saturated since there appears to be a 3 month wait for Videotron to do an interface upgrade (around May 1st).
So some of these smaller resellers could end up with congested links (ie very slow internet) if they don't stop selling after a certain usage threshold is met (ie a stop-sell). And it will remain congested till May.
Videotrons response to this will certainly be interesting. But I think they will only give a damn about those who have 3 services or more since they are bundle-centric.
Also, Videotron themselves know that their interface will only be upgraded around May. Videotron can make life a living hell for these resellers, if they wanted to. For example, they could offer a "free" speed upgrade to all users. If they do this then this will likely saturate the resellers links and they will be congested till mid May.
But Videotron did say they "welcomed the competition".
Will be interesting to see how both the people and the companies react. |

Your answer is why Videotron won't lower the price. |

 | reply to Gorz Because people like my mother-in-law who doesn't watch TV and never uses the phone insist on having all those services on one bill even if in the end it costs them hundreds more every year.
Don't laugh, it's a true story. |

 | reply to DanTou What a load of bullshit. Is videotron holding a gun to your head? Did they force you to move there? Did videotron decide that your building wouldn't accept satellite tv? Of you're not happy with the situation, stop acting like a fucking victim and look for à new place to live where you will be free of oppression and you'll be able to decide for yourself.
Unless you enjoy beeing a whining victim that would rather complain on forums that you can't wait until Bell fibetv ia available.
Good things come to those who wait. Better things come to those who work for it. |

Yes I did look at them. But when you factor in the up front costs, and a similar channel lineup as the one I have now with Videotron, the monthly cost is basically the same if not higher with Shaw.
The trouble is that I have kids, so you can't cut the cable completely. But now I'm thinking of maybe cutting my landline and going with only cells, since my kids all have one...... -- cogito ergo manduc |

And there's probably not that whole lot, but there are people like me, who has no other choice but Videotron where they live. For now anyway.
When other ISP's become available (I hope), then I'll consider |

I am only keeping my TV also. I have decided to give up my landline instead of going with VOIP as all my kids have cellphones and their friends call them on those. I'm not quite sure what the consequences of giving up two services will be, but I'm sure that I will lose most if not all of my discounts.
