 | Internet disconnects every hour Hello, I've had this problem with my internet where it disconnects every hour for 10 seconds. None of the lights on the router go off or even change but I my internet completely blackouts for 10 seconds (Vent disconnects, msn, my games also.. it's really irritating) This was getting really annoying so I called shaw and they sent someone over. He came by and checked all the connections in the wall where my modem plugs in, and he even replaced the modem (I'm using the Cisco DPC 3825 that they supplied, its the modem and router in one.)
He then ran a speedtest on my computer and it was really odd, it would keep dropping off and then flying up to 400 MB/s. He did the same test on our other computers and they didnt do that in the speed test. Now, he told me that the problem was probably my onboard nic's (We tried both slots and it still did the same thing) So I went ahead and bought a new one. The problem didnt stop, so I tried other methods. It turns out the reason the speedtest was doing that was because of my Kaspersky Anti-virus, but we've since replaced that with shaw secure.
I did that last night, and everything seemed to be going well.. It d/ced earlier in the day, but not after I put in the new nic and uninstalled kaspersky. I thought I had found the problem.
Turns out, no. The speedtest being weird had nothing to do with me d/cing and it is still doing it. I'm not sure what the problem could be because he replaced the old router/modem, checked the outside of our house and even redid the connections inside.
I am lost, I tried everything and the disconnecting is still happening. Any help would be appreciated. |

 | When you disconnect do you lose connection on your other computer?
Can you log into the modem's router admin page and see its current connection status (user cusadmin, password is your modem's serial number. Go to "Status")? If so, make note of the gateway IP listed there. When your connection drops, see if you can ping it. |

 | My other computer is actually a laptop my parents use, and they are not on it enough to ever notice anything, so I'm not entirely sure.
It's actually really hard to notice, I only notice it because I have multiple programs that make noise when I disconnect.
As far as logging in, I'm in it. Do you mean the Mac Adress under Gateway? And what do you mean ping it? Sorry, I'm sort of a noob at most of this technical stuff, heh. |

- Call shaw Tech Support and ask for modem to be put into Bridged Mode - Connect your own Router - Enjoy
Perhaps some application you are using (eDonkey/Torrents) is exceeding something and rebooting the eRouter in the modem? |

 | Does the bridged mode thing work even though the modem they gave me is a router/modem in one?
I dont run any Torrents or eDonkey, I just have MSN/Ventrilo/Itunes and a few Chrome browsers open at all times, aswell as League of Legends or other games. |

The bridged mode only works BECAUSE it is a modem with eRouter built in. What you are doing is having the modem interface bridged to the switch in the unit, instead of having traffic processed through the eRouter.
Bridged mode results in a modem w/ eRouter behaving like a regular modem w/ switch. |

 | Got it, Thank you. I'm going to get a brand new Ethernet cord and I'll bridge mode the router. We had a nice Netgear that never gave me troubles before they gave us this new Modem, and I thought we were forced to use it instead. Now that I know I can go back to my netgear I'll switch it in and see if that fixes the issue... Heres hoping!
Thank you for all the help guys! |
