Nope. Active Directory authentication is still broken.

Adding - smb mounting directories still doesn't label mount points correctly.

10.7 and new macs still banned.

I've been working with Apple engineers since 10.7.0

There is a lolnormous thread on the Apple forums about this with no official reply.

The solution has been to deploy a third-party binding solution, which I don't want to do.

I don't see anything about this update that benefits me. I'm thinking about skipping this update.

I think I'll wait to 10.7.4, don't see anything useful with this 700MB+ download, 2 computers...no thanks. Don't want to be running monolingual again for the MBA either. Not that it's an issue...just not up to that task right now. Dag nabbit.

There is an answer. I found it after some work.

I got my Macbook air working with my companies AD which is hosted on MS Server 2k8 in a .local domain. I did it by turning off DNS multicasting.

I suggest checking out the website
hhttp://www.macwindows.com/TIP-Lion-dot-local-AD-disable-multicast.html

You also have to make sure you configure your Directory utility properly you can tell when you have it setup right when you go to the Directory Editor and it pulls up all your domains AD names.

Reader confirms that disabling multicast fixes Lion AD issue

Tuesday, January 24, 2012

Keith Adams confirmed at tip that suggests you can fix Lion problems with .local Active Directory domains by disabling DNS multicast:

Our issue was resolved by disabling MultiDNS broadcast. This tip worked like a champ for us! I had been struggling with the issue since 10.7 came out. Now this fix has resolved the issue of not being able to login as network users on 10.7 machines. We could always bind but not use network accounts. THANKS!!! We were running 10.7.2 on workstations and WS 2008 r2 on the DC. One odd thing was that when I did an upgrade install from snow leopard to Lion when it first came out everything worked fine for existing network accounts but new accounts could not be added.

Looking at the security content for 10.7.3, there may be several reasons to update:

»support.apple.com/kb/HT5130

From the link, there are a number of fixes for QuickTime, several updates for third-party packages and some other interesting fixes...

If you haven't updated yet, avoid the delta update provided by software update and manually download the COMBO update. Many are reporting extensive crashing and artwork issues when using the delta update, reported around the web. The combo update is available here

Download Combo update

If you get a screwed up delta update, apps will crash and you'll get dialogs that look like:

If anyone does have this problem, I'd be curious to know if a permissions repair fixes the issue. This may be one of those rare cases where it helps. FWIW, I updated my mac book air and everything was fine.

is expose any better in 10.7.3. that is the sole reason, im still sticking to snow leopard. i hate mission control, and the fact that i am unable to see minimize windows of all windows, not just app expose. does anyone else think this is a deal breaker for lion?

MVM,

Huh? You've always been able to see every window from every app with Expose in Lion.

Or are you saying you don't want the windows to be organized by app when viewing all windows?

I agree with this completely. I refuse to update my Mac Pro and iMac because 10.7 is such a pain. Only reason I have it on a Macbook Pro and Macbook Air is because it came with it. If I could go backward I would.

It appears that SU is now also using the combo update.

But I would still recommend downloading the combo from the Apple website though.

I haven't updated yet. ATM it is far to risky IMHO.

People report that even the combo update doesn't always fix the issues.

So if you do not have a current backup and you do not "have to" update.. don't update.

Wait for Apple to come up with a fix.

I updated as soon as it was available. I then ran OnyX on both of my machines, which repairs permissions. Haven't noticed any problems on either machine. Not giving advice to use OnyX, just letting you know what I did.

One bug that 10.7.3 has not fixed yet is that Disk Utility will not recognize Striped Raid Drives if you need to repair permissions.

I use the latest build of DiskWarrior to repair permissions.

Mike,

Do you also notice that SMB sharing in Lion is a complete joke ever since they ripped out Samba? My shares sometimes mount and almost always never eject properly and usually lock up my computer.

I've been always able to bind.

When I log in, 90% of the time I get a generic "new" account with no permissions, and cannot do anything. It requires rebooting about 10 or 15 times. It's like it's not mounting my profile but making something up.

It doesnt matter if you take the machine off the domain (via system preferences and confirming it's gone via a windows machine.. which the apple side works 30% of the time) and re-add it.

Nothing at all in console recently.

The last OD crash was;
