Cancelled Rogers, lost access to yahoo email account

A friend had Rogers internet for quite a while, and recently switched to TS about 2 or 3 weeks ago. At some point in the past, he merged his personal yahoo e-mail account with his rogers e-mail account (to get access to some premium services like Yahoo music).

As soon as the switch to TS happened, he lost access to the yahoo e-mail account. He gets this message when he goes to yahoo.com to try to login:

====================
You must close your Rogers e-mail account

If you don't do this within 90 days, it will be done automatically
=====================

It lists the account, with a "close" and "do later" button. He selects Close, and then it says "Server error, please try again later". He tried several times over the past 2-3 weeks, and gets the same result.

He calls Yahoo, they say it's a Rogers problem - they must close or unmerge the account. He calls Rogers - they say they can't "un-merge" anything because "the account doesn't exist any more".

So what are his options at this point? Has anyone else gone through this?

Does Rogers have a "Direct Support" forum here on DSLR?

try unmerging first and see if it helps

Read it again. Yahoo says they can't do anything on their end.

Rogers says the account doesn't exist anymore so there is nothing to "un-merge".

It never was .ca - always .com. And he doesn't even type that in when logging in - just the user-name (left-hand-side of e-mail address).

Tell him to call the office of the president at Rogers, not sure what else to say. Reason why I use either g-mail or hotmail and not Rogers...if I move to the USA to be with some hot Lebanese chick, the Rogers account will be useless to me.

That looks like a Yahoo problem to me...they merged the Yahoo and Rogers emails together. Tell them to remove the association to the Rogers account to fix it. If they can't do that, have them reset your Yahoo account - you might lose emails and settings though.

Am I missing something here? The screenshot says "Click "Close Now" to close your Rogers Yahoo! username (...@rogers.com) ***AND CONTINUE USING YOUR ORIGINAL YAHOO ID***

Once you close your Rogers Yahoo! username (...@rogers.com) ***YOU CAN USE YOUR ORIGINAL YAHOO ID*** etc...

Looks to me like "Close Now" will do exactly what your friend wants, unless I missed something in the original post...

Look like you missed a few parts of the OP...

(Don't have my account info here, so I'm posting as "anonymous")

Completely missed the couple of lines about the error - sorry about that. The day started very badly, so it's just part of the trend. :\ Sorry about that.

Lesson learned then - NEVER have an account with your ISP.

The way I read the above message (from Yahoo) - it seems to indicate that the account will become available after 90 days (will, I guess it's closer to 70 days at this point). I read their message to mean that the accounts will become "un-merged" at that point, and he will have access again to his yahoo account.
