| Different Answer to "Which Distro?" I just resurrected a Quad-Core and was playing with loading some of the various distros. Of course I installed Ubuntu, Mint, Ultimate Edition, OpenSUSE and Mepis just to throw some names out there. I even went back and re-installed the "biggies" but they still weren't inspiring me.
Then I came upon PCLinuxOS - The Full Monty. This KDE Distro has it ALL. Six Desktops centered around Internet, Office, Games, Music, Multimedia and System. The numerous applications are very complete which is perfect for the novices as well as seasoned users.
The only quirky part of the install was the Drive partitioning, but directions were displayed to assist.
Check it out @ »www.pclinuxos.com/?page_id=1413
.iso is almost 4Gb and needs to be burned to a DVD. |

| I'm not sure what they use for various applications but you can do the same thing yourself or in a similar or different way with any distro that provides KDE.
If you installed Kubuntu 11.10 and added the ppa for KDE updates you could have 4.8.0 and some similar things to the multiple desktops provided by activities that give a little more separation and control and unique widgets per activity.
Just throwing this out there since I'm sure all the 'biggies" you tried are the typical non-kde desktops that don't let you have it "your way". -- Say no to JAMS! |

I noticed that too so it was part of the reason I was recommending something else that was more up-to-date. 4.6 to 4.7 solves a lot of bugs, 4.8 more so. -- Say no to JAMS! |
