maytag gas dryer after running won't cycle again

After drying clothes in a maytag gas dryer it won't cycle again. Have power, bulb is on inside. Hear a humming sound but nothing else. Hit start button and sounds like a dead short sound. Same sound if door is open and I push on the door switch. Also same sound if in any power drying mode. Intermittent problem .

try holding in the door switch, hit the start button, and manually turn the drum. If you can get it going, and stay going, then you have a failing starter switch on the motor. Need a new motor for that one..

dryer is working. I was thinking motor or a safety overload/heat sensor.
Thanks

i was thinking of a bad belt, since everything else was working, and the humming sounds more like the motor turning, but not the drum..

I agree with iknow. It sounds like the dryer's belt is bad. The belt could have also came off the idler pulley. It's pretty easy to fix and replace the dryer's belt.
