 | [speed/latency] Sync Speed at 5 mbps but Capped at 3 mbps I recently had Verizon upgraded my speed provision to 5 mbps however my speed is capped at 3 mbps. I've tried rebooting my modem several times. Is there something wrong on my line? Or does Verizon forgot to do something on their end? Here are my transceiver stats. Thanks in advance for any help.

| Can you provide a speed test for us to see? When you're downloading, does the speed top out at around 360-380KB/s and does the latency hit levels of around 80-100ms? What do you get when you speed test to »web100.rit.edu:7123/ ? |

 | reply to brokenpromis When downloading my speed is at around 340 - 355KB/s and my latency is at around 10-25ms. So I don't think it's on my end. However, the maxed speed in my area is 1.1 - 3 mbps but I had a Verizon tech changed my speed to 5 mbps. Could there be something else he forgot to do? |

| broken - i'm going thru a similar 3 to 7 saga on this thread; »anyone speedtest >5Mbps read the recent post for something i learned that may help
my CO has ports with 1,3,5,7 speed but none of the 7 ports are free now to give me. so they have to waitlist me for when a 7 port opens or they add more 7 capacity in my CO. |
|
|
|
 | So I would have to get on a 5 port at my CO in order to get speeds of 5 mbps? Thanks |

4 edits | maybe, but there could be other issues... your transceiver says; DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec) 5888 864 Data Path: Fast which would imply you are already on a 5 port at the CO, so the reason for the speed loss may be line trouble or that you need to run INTERLEAVE to get the full 5 speed.
when you call support in India to report this, insist on speaking to a supervisor who can authorize them to open a trouble ticket to monitor your line and determine if a premise visit or reconfiguration work at the CO is needed. don't just roll over and take it - with Verizon you must keep the pressure on them to do anything - just be polite and reasonable, otherwise they'll just pretend to help and not.
Several times I called and was told they would do something, only to find out the next day that nothing was ordered yet. Just matter of fact'ly say if you don't get what you paying for, you will cancel your service within the first 30 day grace period, that may help put a fire under their ass to perform. I would also call your local CableTV company to see what internet only offers they run - check costs on install, first year, following years, and depending on your market, they may prove to be a better value. |

| reply to brokenpromis It's also like the Edge Router or ATM links needs to be re-provisioned specifically for your account. They maintain quality of service measures for each line so that even if your line winds up syncing higher than it should be, it won't pull more speed from the network than what you're provisioned for. It's unlikely this is the case, but I've seen it happen in the past when someone was set to 3Mbps from 1.5Mbps, their line still ran at 1.5Mbps because the provisioning wasn't done completely. |
|
 | Thank you both for the replies, I'm just curious is there anything I can ask Verizon Direct to do in this case to get an avg speed of 4-5 mbps rather than being capped at 3 mbps? Thanks |

That is most likely the problem. Probably a provisioning mismatch somewhere. PM me and I'll see what your provisioning is. -- RIP my babies Buttons 1/15/94-2/9/07, Beamer 7/24/08, & Bows 12/17/94-10/11/09 |

He's on a Litespan which is not suppose to be provisioned higher than 3M but in this case somehow it's set at 5M. The records indicate he's on the 3M plan and that's what the rest of his PVC is set at. If the billing records match, he should be paying for the 3M plan, if not he need to get a refund. -- RIP my babies Buttons 1/15/94-2/9/07, Beamer 7/24/08, & Bows 12/17/94-10/11/09 |

Yeah, I don't get involved in that part of things, so I don't know what the cost of the plans are. -- RIP my babies Buttons 1/15/94-2/9/07, Beamer 7/24/08, & Bows 12/17/94-10/11/09 |
