Eug join:2007-04-14 Toronto, ON 4 edits | Automatic rollover to unlimited plan. How does this work? EDIT AGAIN:
*** Pricing and usage overage FAQ ***
EDIT
Questions have been tentatively answered by TSI:
---
Q - If someone surpasses their cap (combined past 2 months) will they be changed to the unlimited plan?
A - YES
Eug's note: It seems as if the FAQ contradicts this.
We will not automatically convert our customers package to the unlimited selection however we strongly recommend that if they continuously exceed the allotted amount that the account be transitioned to an unlimited package.
---
Q - When would they start paying the unlimited price?
A - They will pay the difference for the new unlimited price 30 days after they are notified they were over. Notification of overage and the extra charge will be explained on their invoice.
---
Q - Do they have to pay to go back to the 300 GB capped plan? If so how much?
A - No, as long as they do not switch the speed they are in.
---
Q - One big question I have though is if this is retroactive. For example, if you were slightly over in December and January, does that mean you are switched to unlimited in February?
A - The calculations start Feb 2 and we can start charging beginning April 1
---
Q - Is this true in the west?
A - This does not apply for the West
---
Q - Does this mean if someone rolls over to unlimited, they are unlimited for just those months, or is that someone permanently unlimited?
A - People should automatically be rolled back to their original package after they have been charged the unlimited price.
---
Q - How are usage overages billed for those on the 2 Mbps DSL plan?
A - I have been in contact with our Billing department. Since this is a new plan they are currently working on how the usage billing will work with it. Once they have a definite answer they will ensure that it is posted out there on the forum for all. Please do keep an eye on the forum for further updates.

said by TSI : 2 Month Rolling Average
TekSavvy will manage usage based on a rolling 2 month average.
Rolling average is defined as usage during peak hours. (Outside of the 2am-8am off-peak time)
How the Rolling average works.
Every month, we will average the usage for the two previous months. If the average exceeds the Customers cap, we will automatically roll them over to the unlimited plan. Our customers will be notified when this rollover happens.
Does this mean if someone rolls over to unlimited, they are unlimited for just those months, or is that someone permanently unlimited?
Is this new rule retroactive? IOW, if the person was over the 300 GB monthly usage limit in December and January, are they rolled over, or does it only apply from February on?
I see that the TSI usage tool only records off-peak times from January on. The amount used in off-peak times isn't recorded for December. Everything in December seems to be counted as being during regular hours.

 | That doesn't sound like good policy to me... |

 | reply to Eug And what is this "Network Fee" of $1.50/month for 2mbps and 6mbps service?
Not to mention, 25/7 is a lot more expensive than we all thought, because modem rental wasn't included... The real price is $61/month.
And cable activation up to $65? Holy crap! |

If it's an automatic rollover for just those months over the limit, then that's potentially reasonable. However, if two consecutive months over the limit means that one is permanently switched over to the unlimited plan, then that may be a very bad thing for some people.
Plus, to be fair, the two consecutive months should only be from February on, but the description doesn't spell that out. Does January 2012 also count in the averaging?

 | reply to Eug Has anybody ever been billed by the GB for overage? Certainly I never used enough to notice. Considering the cable usage situation, I wonder... |

On cable, there is no functional usage meter. However, I do believe some on DSL have been billed for overages. -- Everything Apple |

| reply to Eug There seems to be no $/GB listed anymore for overages. So I would assume that instead of charging /GB, they will simply stick you with the unlimited plan instead. Good if you go way over I suppose, but if it's a one time thing many people might just want to pay the extra for one month. I would assume the unlimited switch would be assumed permanent, but who knows if you are allowed to switch back down. |

WTF. No. I won't be staying a customer with that kind of policy. It's insane. -- Developer: Tomato/MLPPP, Linux/MLPPP, etc »fixppp.org |

| That modem Rental Fee is Very rude to I JUST ordered and such and No modem rental fee was quoted or explained whatsoever thats harsh, but if there is a modem rental fee then it stands to reason I Should be allowed to purchase my own Modem if i so wish.
Wow these new policys are telling me i wasted $100 dollars for the signup fee for this dsl 25/7 I won;t be staying a teksavvy customer with so many Additional Hidden charges appearing That were not Included in the new pricing scheme and the rollover policy is AWFUL i mean if i go over on my 25/7 wow additional $25 dollars? seriously Not even per gig overage? Bells fibe offering just took a Screeching Jump to the top of my list or acanac cable. -- Every time Someone leaves Sympatico an Angel gets its wings.

1 edit | reply to Guspaz And what about people on the new 2M DSL plan? If their rolling average goes over their 25GB cap, there is no 2M UNLIMITED plan to put them on.
Do they automatically get pushed up to 6M/300GB?
This new 2M plan just seems like it hasn't been given a lot of thought, right from the Jan. 3rd announcements; of course it was 3M then! |

There's probably some leeway, but if you go 50GB over you'll probably be switched.

| I've seen some cell phone data plans where if your usage fees are more expensive than the higher tier they put you into that.
ie so if this month my usage is 1 GB over I get charged $1 (or whatever). If next month my 50 GB usage would have cost me $50 bucks they just charge me for the unlimited tier instead. If I'm under by 50GB the month after that I just get charged the basic fee. |

There's probably some leeway, but if you go 50GB over you'll probably be switched. So, in that scenario, instead of being charged $12.50 for 50GB overage, I'd get charged $50 for the upgrade... No thanks. -- Developer: Tomato/MLPPP, Linux/MLPPP, etc »fixppp.org |

| reply to Guspaz It does seem like a horrible policy. Whether it's $25 for a DSL 25M line, or 15 for 24M cable. It's steep as hell.
Although it's not spelled out I would assume that the switch to unlimited would only be on the ONE bill they have decided to charge you for going over. |
|
 | reply to Guspaz And don't forget the extra $5 account change fee too! |

Policy needs a much better explanation as this cost of this so called upgrade is not being stated upfront. |

| reply to extra_5 Looking again... the wording is "If the average exceeds the Customer’s cap, we will automatically roll them over to the unlimited plan".
It does seem to indicate that the user will 1) Not be charged for overages. 2) Will be subject to a permanent upgrade to unlimited starting the next month (immediately) and possibly subject to the $5 fee .. then another $5 if you want to switch back
If this isn't the case then why not word it as:
"If the average exceeds the Customer’s cap, they will be charged the unlimited plan for the month the cap was exceeded." |

 | said by bbhog:"If the average exceeds the Customer’s cap, they will be charged the unlimited plan for the month the cap was exceeded." If it was the case then why would anyone want to sign up for unlimited in the first place? |

If it was the case then why would anyone want to sign up for unlimited in the first place? Indeed. However, many people had signed up to the 300 GB plans before this new pricing structure, at a time when TSI stated they would charge $0.25 per GB of overage. -- Everything Apple |

GuspazGuspazPremium,MVM join:2001-11-05 Montreal, QC kudos:16 | reply to bbhog Well, if the $5 fee to change back applies, then using 1GB over my cap is a $55 fee, plus the time it takes to phone in and change it.
In response to cah51o8's question, if either were the case, why would I want to stay a customer? -- Developer: Tomato/MLPPP, Linux/MLPPP, etc »fixppp.org |
