Some drives might have a jumper for force Sata 1 or the manufacturer has a utility to set the mode. You shouldn't have to do this unless you are having problems running a Sata 2 drive on a Sata 1 controller. -- Moe, I need your advice See I've got this friend named Joey Joe-Joe... Junior... reply to treichhart Well see my hp desktop dont have sata and there is 1.5gb sata pci card from newegg is only 7 dollars plus free shipping that is why I am asking.
SATA is backwards and forward compatible, but there are always problematic chipsets. You don't have to adjust anything unless you have a 3Gbps drive has problems with the 1.5Gbps controller. -- Moe, I need your advice See I've got this friend named Joey Joe-Joe... Junior... Shabadoo..
reply to treichhart As said you shouldn't need to mees with that setting you can use a SataIII (6gb) on a sataI(1.5gb) without issue other than lower throughput
if you come across a crappy chipset then is the only time to consider that setting
